Entertaining can be lots of fun, but many people don’t invite friends or family over because they fear the fuss and extra work involved. Entertaining doesn’t have to be a big deal, though. Good planning will go a long way towards helping make your next party a breeze.
Outdoor entertaining is really easy, so if you have an outdoor entertainment area why not use it to entertain? Cleaning up after the party will be much easier too. Super Amart has lots has lots of inexpensive outdoor furnishings, including fold-up seats which are ideal for extra guests.
What about the Food?
One of the best options for a party is finger food. Finger food means people can continue mingling and do not have to sit down at a set table to eat. You won’t need to worry about cutlery and dinnerware, and guests will only need a small plate or even a serviette to place their finger food on.
How to Serve Finger Food
The whole idea of finger food is that it is bite-sized. It needs to be small enough to be easily eaten in a single mouthful. It should also be easy to pick up in the fingers. Oily food or food coated in sauces is not suitable unless it is served with a toothpick for easy handling.
You need to ensure the food is not too hot. It would be a trifle embarrassing to serve finger food that burns your guests’ fingers! It’s also a good idea to have a bowl on the table where guests can place left-over bits and pieces, like used toothpicks and olive seeds. Arrange food so it is easy to pick up. Don’t over-stack plates. You can refill plates when they become empty by bringing out fresh food regularly.
Here are a few ideas for really tasty finger foods that are sure to be a big hit at your next party:
Savoury Finger Food
Caramelised onion tartlets are a delicious idea and really easy to prepare. You can make the bases from thin slices of bread pushed into a muffin tin and covered lightly with melted butter. Bake until golden and then fill with a delicious mixture of caramelised onion and sun-dried tomatoes.
Another tasty finger food idea is bite sized pieces of bruschetta topped with chorizo, grilled capsicum and tomato. The chorizo will give the snack a spicy taste while the grilled capsicum will provide some sweetness.
Crispy prawn and crab toasts are lovely to serve with drinks. The toast can be deep-fried or grilled for a healthier alternative and then topped with prawn and crab.
It’s always good to have a vegetarian option available. Chickpea and rice balls are really tasty and are also gluten free for anyone suffering from gluten intolerance. These treats are made with chickpeas and rice flavoured with garlic, chilli and fresh coriander.
Sweet potato fries are another favourite. Just cut sweet potato into sticks and fry. It’s that simple!
