It wasn’t all that long ago that I shared with you about updating my stand mixer and sharing why I am so loyal to the Bosch brand when it comes to mixers. It’s hard to argue with a 17+ years of exemplarary service in my kitchen before moving on to my daughter’s house. So, it was an easy decision to select my new Bosch Universal Plus mixer. That first mixer was purchased from Pleasant Hill Grain, all those years ago, so it made sense to reach out to them, again, for my upgrade.
I first learned about Pleasant Hill Grain when one of the moms in our local homeschool group was grinding fresh flour for me. I had asked for her bread recipe and she shared the one she used to mix six loaves at a time. I made a comment about her upper arm strength to be able to knead such a large batch of dough for the appropriate time. She laughed and introduced me to her Bosch Universal mixer. I was an immediate fan. She had purchased hers from a company called Pleasant Hill Grain and she was excited to tell me all about them. It took me months of saving to be able to afford that first mixer and I’ve never regretted even one penny-pinching minute of it. It was, hands-down, the most important and valued tool in my kitchen. It still is, today, even though I now use the Bosch Universal Plus.
Pleasant Hill Grain is a third-generation, family-business dedicated to quality, service, product knowlege and great prices; and they are definitely my top pick for essential kitchen tools. Not only do they carry the Bosch brand mixers, but many other high quality tools I have come to rely on in my own kitchen, like WonderMill grain mills, American Harvester Dehydrators, Silpat baking mats and work surfaces, OXOtools and gadgets, canning supplies, organic grains and legumes, plus so much more. Eveything they carry allows families to live a healthier, more independent lifestyle, by producing and preparing their own food. This past week, I had an opportunity to visit them, in Hampton, Nebraska. My fourteen-year-old went along and we had a fabulous day. We toured the on-site store and saw the Pleasant Hill Grain test kitchen and warehouse. It was sort of like turning two kids loose in a candy store. I would be snapping pictures and checking out a newly discovered product when I would hear, “Oooh, Mom! Come look at this!” Do you suppose it’s hereditary? lol
I have, often, shared with you that, just like my husband, selecting tools to work with when he does HIS job; I want kitchen tools that are high quality, and durable, that perform at top efficiency each and every time I use them. While the initial cost for tools like that is sometimes, higher, I don’t lose time or money replacing them every year or two, as I have so often found myself doing with “bargain” brands. Outfitting my kitchen with high quality kitchen tools and appliances means I have what I need at my fingertips, for a lifetime of creative cooking and baking, and that I won’t be delayed in the process to replace something that didn’t hold up. In the long run, it’s more cost-effective to spend the money once and have a long-lasting, work-horse of a tool. I’m so impressed that at Pleasant Hill Grain, that really IS the philosophy, so I can be confident in the products I purchase there.
Another thing that sets Pleasant Hill Grain apart from other retailers is their commitment to test and know their products — to understand how to use and maintain them. They spend countless hours in their test kitchen testing and comparing appliances and products, not to mention mixing up and baking recipes to see how the tools, appliances and grain products they sell will perform. If you call the store with a question, you will get to speak to someone who has experience with the products and can fully answer your questions, because it’s been tested and tried, right there.
If you don’t live near Hampton, Nebraska, there’s no need to fret. Pleasant Hill Grain, it’s extraordinary, friendly customer service and product experience, as well as some of the most high-quality kitchen products in the industry, are right at your fingertips. Check them out at pleasanthillgrain.com or on their Blog. You’ll also find them on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube.

The Bosch Compact mixer is the same high-quality work-horse we expect from German-engineered Bosch machines — just in a smaller package for those of you, who unlike me, don’t long to mix six loaves of bread dough at a time. lol It has a high-torque 400 watt motor with a microprocessor for constant speed control. It’s quality and performance in an affordable package, that fits modern counters and lifestyles. The multi-function drive arm pivots for easy access to the bowl, as well as compact storage. The Compact Mixer comes with the 4 qt. mixing bowl, bowl cover, dough hook, french whip, and batter whisk. Plus, you can add on a full line of fabulous accessories! The Bosch Compact’s whip drive doesn’t just spin… it also rotates within the bowl. This combination action provides fantastically thorough mixing and whipping. And when the stainless dough hook is attached, it ensures that dough is kneaded to perfection for outstanding baking results!
