I’m sure you remember that awful day – the day I confessed what a clutter collector I had become. This room had no name, no purpose and frankly, freaked me out. We kept putting things in there that we didn’t know what else to do with, until the day finally came, that I walked into that unbelievable mess and had finally had it. I love the changes we made and I think that you might, too.
Believe it or not, that’s my work desk, up there, under all that clutter in front of the window. Now, that this room has become my lovely new dining room, (Yes, it’s finished — gorgeous new ceiling fan and all.), that desk and all my other work tools need a new home and lots of organization. As it turns out, the space that was simply to small for our original family dining room, is perfect for my brand new office. I hope you enjoy these room transformations, as much as I do. The office is still a work in progress, but you won’t believe the difference.
Who would believe that an idea for an awesome Christmas gift could come from such chaos? I know — it was hard for me, too. 🙂 But, honestly, think about it. Two strokes after midnight on the 31st, we’re all going to be thinking about “lightening up”, “cleaning up” and “getting organized”. I discovered a wonderful product that helped me to start that organization process as I worked on my office makeover. It was the Fellowes M-12C Paper Shredder. You’ll know I’m right, when you read the description, below. It was the perfect gift for me and it will be for anyone on your gift list that wants to begin the New Year in a “clutter-free” zone. Who’s on your holiday list that would be PERFECT for the M-12C?
Who knew when I started this blog, five years ago, that it would become a full-fledged brand and business? It’s been an exciting thing for me, and my family, and we have learned and adjusted to lots of new experiences and expectations along the way. Before I realized that such a thing was even possible, I didn’t think in terms of business and all the paperwork and record-keeping involved. Over the last few years, the need to get organized and be intentional about my record-keeping has grown more important. Knowing that I needed to keep the records was one thing. Understanding a good system for keeping them was something else. My solution was to literally keep EVERYTHING. lol You know — just in case I might need it. And my filing system? Taking every piece of paper even remotely related to business and putting it in the file cabinet or a desk drawer. And I use the word “putting” in the most literal of senses. That’s right. I have been just stacking them in the drawers, knowing that if I ever needed a specific piece, I was going to have to sift through several years of “stack” to find the one I wanted. Oy! What that should tell you is that I have rarely had to go back and get anything out of the stacks, meaning I’ve kept WAY more than was necessary and that I need to get smart about a filing system that makes the pieces I DO need to keep, easy to put my hands on. Eliminating clutter is a huge part of getting organized.
I recognized three important facts as I put my plan together. I have created a beautiful dining room by switching my desk out of the formerly unidentified room in the front of our house into what used to be our too small dining room. It worked beautifully and the dining room looks FANTASTIC, but I need to give the same detailed attention to creating a functional office space, now. For one thing, my overflowing file cabinet is in the basement. It needs to be upstairs, in the office and cleared of excess clutter. Secondly, I need to devise a record-keeping system that keeps my most important business data and records in one easily accessible place, instead of scattered across so many individual pieces of paper. And thirdly, a great deal of that paper “clutter” I need to get rid of contains private information I’m not comfortable just tossing in the wastebasket. I need a reliable paper shredder to give me the confidence to discard those items without worrying about identity theft or the unintentional transfer of information into hands that shouldn’t have it. And it can’t be just any shredder. It has to handle more than one or two pieces at a time and be safe when my grandkids are around. I need function, safety and a durable, dependable machine.
Enter the Fellowes M-12C Shredder. It has literally changed my organizational life! Instead of keeping every single piece of paper that crosses my desk, I can record pertinent information into my new record-keeping system and then shred and discard all the unnecessary paper. Not only is it safer, it takes up so much less space than tossing paper into the wastebasket. The M-12C Shredder from Fellowes has some outstanding features, that set it apart:
- Cross-Cut blades that destroy 12 sheets of paper into approximately 302 particles per sheet for greater security
- SafeSense® Technology which automatically disables the shredder when hands touch the paper opening
- The ability to shred credit cards, paper clips, staples and junk mail for added convenience
- Shreds for 5 minutes before automatic cool down
- I also love that the paper drawer is integrated right into the machine. I have had other shredders in the past that center across the top of a waste basket and I love this cleaner, self-contained option!
- Has a reverse gear.
Organizing my office sends me on my way into 2015 with a clutter-free and efficient work space, which leaves me with more time for writing, instead of sifting through stacks of paper. I’m so excited about the way the Fellowes M-12C Shredder has motivated some great new habits in my life and inspired me to put the finishing touches on my office space makeover. Next time you see it, there’ll be a freshly organized, four-drawer file cabinet in the corner and nothing in the way of Busy-at-Home growing and being productive in 2015. 🙂 I’m guessing this awesome shredder would make some great organizational impact at YOUR house, too, or for someone on your Christmas list.
