Some days are just for fun! I got to have one of those, this week, when I got together with two of my favorite people and decorated cakes for Christmas with some new products I’ve been testing, from the Cake Boss. You know the Cake Boss, right? I’ll bet you’ve watched him create beautifully creative confections and cakes on his TV show on TLC. I have a great time when I get to watch his shows and, often, get inspired to try some of the fun ideas and techniques I see Buddy and others in his bakery using. I also LOVE getting together with family and friends in the kitchen, and working together to create something delicious, so, when I was offered the chance to host a cake decorating party with friends, using tools, serveware and products by the Cake Boss, you know I jumped at the chance! Something about working side-by-side in the kitchen, creating and sharing food, strengthens relationships and creates fun memories that will last a lifetime and I never want to miss an opportunity to make some more!
I enjoy decorating cakes and trying out new ideas and techniques. I even made our daughter’s wedding cake. So, you can imagine how excited I was to learn that the Cake Boss had developed a complete line of products to make creating wonderfully hand-decorated cakes, at home, even simpler. Any tool you can imagine needing, and some you probably never dreamed of, are going to be at your fingertips at your favorite Michaels stores and at Michael’s online.
Our oldest daughter has inherited my penchant for decorating cakes, so she was the first person I thought of when I saw these extraordinary products. As moms of FIVE, both she and her sweet friend Nickie, have many occasions to need decorated cakes, plus both were excited to try out some of the exciting Cake Boss tools and spend a little “grown up” time, together. Mom’s need a fun day out, once in a while, so of course, I invited both of them over to share in the fun. We had a BLAST and made the most awesome cakes!
While preparing for our party, and then during the fun event, I had the opportunity to use and test many of the exciting new Cake Boss products. I was first struck by the quality and durability of the tools and serveware. I absolutely fell in love with the Cake Carrier! It’s enameled cover is decorated in a sweet retro “icing” pattern and is protectively coated to help prevent stains and rust. It’s made from tin-covered steel, so it’s durable and warp-resistant; plus the cover locks into place, making it simple to carry your dessert securely. Our nine-inch layer cakes had ample room inside the decorative and functional carrier. Love, love, love it!
I was also super-impressed with the bakeware I tested – two nine-inch round cake pans and the molded flower cakelette pans. The pans were all designed with heavy-duty carbon steel construction and rolled edges to provide added strength and to resist warping. They had “heft” to them when I picked them up and I could “feel” the quality and strenth of the the materials when holding the pans. Both have a long-lasting nonstick interior and exterior that was designed to help baked goods release easily, as well as to make cleanup a snap. I’m here to tell you they succeeded! Cakes AND cupcakes slipped from the pans with just a touch. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. Even after multiple uses ( I baked EIGHT nine-inch round cakes), the results were the same. The cakes were able to be taken from the pans without a miss. It was a baker’s dream come true. I want these pans in all shapes and sizes!
Molded cupcakes and mini-cakes are some of the most difficult baked goods to remove from their pans, intact. All eight of my cakes made with Cake Boss Divine White Cake Mix and all 12 mini-cakes were PERFECT! Not one stuck to the pan and they retained their shape, exquisitely!
This post is going to be ten miles long if I keep showing you each product I loved, individually, but I HAVE to tell you about the cake mixes. I tested the Cake Boss Divine White Cake Mix and each package contained the mix and a packet of custard – not custard powder or mix – actual, prepared custard! The custard, mix, eggs, oil and water were beaten together to create one of the most moist and scrumptious white cakes I have ever tasted. I’m interested in trying other flavors of the Cake Boss cake mixes, now that we’ve had such great success with this one.
Another product that quickly worked it’s way into my cake-decorating heart was the Decorating Turntable. It features a non-skid base to keep it from sliding around the table or counter and a rubberized ring around the surface to hold cakes steady and help prevent them from sliding across the turntable. One of my favorite features is that the decorating turntable can be locked, so that it won’t turn, in those times when you need the cake to be still and steady in one spot. The turntable makes smooth, steady and even-pressured decorating so much simpler. It’s a 10+ on my “favorites” scale!
At the end of our party, I sat down to review the photos I had taken. Somehow, every photo with a human in it, had wonderful shots of the cakes and swirling blurs that were supposed to be people. lol I promise none of us were breaking any speed records. Nonetheless, we were always moving as the camera snapped, so for whatever reason, I don’t have any worthy “process” pictures. I hope the ones I have posted can give you an idea how simple our designs were to create and if you have any questions, leave me a note in the comments. I’ll be glad to walk you through it! 🙂
We had a marvelous afternoon, just moms, having fun conversation and getting creative! We decorated cakes that we never would have expected to be able to do, before our party started; and we learned a LOT in the process. Every time I decorate a cake, I gain more and more confidence for the next one. I LOVE trying new ideas and techniques. It really is a fairly forgiving medium and I have rarely made a “mistake” I couldn’t remove, (or cover), to go on and create a wonderful design. YOU can definitely decorate amazing cakes! You can! I know it! And Cake Boss products will certainly help to make the process simple and fun!
Using a fondant ribbon cutter was a new experience for me, as was creating a fondant bow, but I loved the way the cake turned out and enjoyed adding some new skills to my decorating “bag of tricks”. Every good cake decorating party ends with taste testing, right? Never let it be said that we skipped any critical party steps! lol The cakes were stupendous! Flavor, texture, moistness – they were spot on. and then, at the end, everyone received a generous bag of Cake Boss products to take home. It was a delightful afternoon, with people I love AND cake. What could be better? 🙂 Maybe it’s time YOU had a cake decorating party!
I hope you’re inspired to give cake decorating a try with easy to use tools and products from the Cake Boss. I would LOVE to see your wonderful designs!
