How old are you? When you reach an age where you really have to stop and think to answer that question, and then turn to look at your husband for help, you may be older than you remembered. lol It’s possible that I know this from personal experience. Forgetfulness seems to be a natural part of the aging process, but sometimes it’s evidence that we’re too busy, being pulled in too many directions and probably not taking the best care of ourselves. Sadly, I fall a little in both camps.
We have spent the last few years dealing with some major health issues with my husband. Add to that moving FIVE times in ten years, the substantial debt that medical care can create, trying to sell our last home on our own for nearly two years, selling that home and moving 30 days ago, remodeling a good chunk of our new home while we are living in it, preparing for David to undergo two heart surgeries on Tuesday and getting ready for a busy holiday season and you might say, “My mind has been on “other things”. 🙂 When those kinds of BIG life challenges happen, trying to balance them with plain-old, ordinary, day-to-day responsibilities and activities can take it’s toll, mentally and physically. We can get really focused on taking care of everything else and forget to take care of ourselves.
Taking some steps toward becoming my best healthy me is my way of taking back the part of my life that stress has chipped away at, over the last several years. I need to start taking off the weight I gained during that time. Ugh! That means exercise and breaking the soda habit (again!). It means getting a good night’s sleep, instead of watching just one more episode of Chopped on Netflix. 🙂 And it means supplementing where my diet falls short of the nutrients that I need.
A perfect example of my diet falling short, is fish. I pretty much hate it. I want to like it. I try to like it. I have bravely forced myself to swallow different kinds of sushi to the cheers of friends saying, “You’ll love it.” 😒 So mean.
I’ve eaten fish fried, battered, breaded, broiled, steamed and grilled. I’ve tried dousing it in herbs, lemon and sauces. I thought maybe shellfish was the solution. Yikes! No. It’s just not happening. I simply do not like fish.
It’s not lost on me, however, how much I need the healthy heart support and Omega 3 fatty acids that fish can provide. Which is why, when I am at our local Walmart Super Center, I pick up fish oil and the other supplements I need to make up for what I simply can’t get from my food choices. I actually love our Walmart. It’s my one-stop-shopping choice, every week. I find everything on my grocery/household/family list and can rely on their everyday low prices to make it easy to stock up, instead of waiting on sales.
