Yesterday, I promised you I would share some recipes to use the wonderful Homemade Whole Milk Kefir I showed you how to make. The health benefits are just too phenomenal not to use it, so I want to make it easier for you to work it into the foods your family is used to eating every day. Of course, no copycat recipe is ever going to be exactly the same as the original, but I’m so excited about this Ranch Dressing! It TASTES fantastic and I think your family will accept it pretty quickly as their every-day-ranch, for salads and for dipping. It’s easy to make and comes together quickly with Homemade Kefir, Sour Cream and organic herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs. (*affiliate link)
In keeping with my sneaky mission to get kefir into our meal rotation without actually tipping off my kids that I was doing it, I washed out an old ranch dressing bottle and poured mine into it. They walked into the kitchen, looked at the bottle, and asked, “What did you do to the ranch?” lol So much for being sneaky! They hadn’t even opened the bottle and knew it was different. That’s how serious we are about ranch dressing at our house. The kids dip tacos and chicken strips in it. They eat it on salads and dip veggies in it. They mix it with salsa to eat with their favorite Mexican dishes. It’s a serious relationship and they do NOT want to mess it up. 🙂 Their Dad was an easy sell and converted quickly to my new healthier dressing. After getting past the new look and grudgingly tasting it, even the kids had to admit it was good, even if it wasn’t identical.
Now, one of our favorite every day condiments is loaded with vitamins, minerals and probiotics to help build a healthy immune system and aid in digestive health. It probably wouldn’t classify as “health food”, but it is many times over, healthier than the processed, preservative-filled version we were buying. I hope you love it, too, and will get going on making your own kefir. There are more great recipes to use it in, coming soon. Enjoy!
- Put buttermilk powder and all the herbs into your blender and pulse until thoroughly combined into a consistent powder.
- Mix the buttermilk/herb powder with the sour cream and kefir.
- Add additional salt, to taste, but keep in mind that the flavors intensify as the dressing chills.
- Store in the refrigerator.
