Our Keurig Special Edition brewer got a new baby brother, today! And he is the most gorgeous shade of shiny red! Keurig’s MINI Plus brewer is the perfect size for campers, dorm rooms, hotel rooms, tiny apartments and your office desk. Now you can have your favorite coffee, tea and beverage flavors wherever you are, even if space is at a premium.
The new Keurig MINI Plus and K-Cups we were sent to test and review. Isn't that a gorgeous red!
The Keurig MINI Plus Brewer is gorgeous, with three choices for color – black, red and platinum. It’s more square and boxy than my special Edition Brewer and the footprint on my counter is a little smaller. Used as intended, in smaller spaces, where an individual needs a quick refreshment, the MINI Brewer is the perfect way to enjoy the same delicious hot beverages you can get from larger models. This is not the brewer you want on your kitchen counter if you have a large family, making many multiple beverages a day from it. That’s not what it was intended for. This sweet little brewer is the perfect fit in your home office/den, a vacation home or cabin, a business trip hotel room, in your camper or wherever your quiet getaway place might be. It’s intended to brew a single cup at a time. It provides the convenience of a fresh, piping hot cup, right at your fingertips, without needing to make a whole pot. And it only takes around two minutes, which includes heating the water and brewing your perfect beverage!
Filling the brewer is easy. The three gray discs on the left, show you the exact water level for whichever size cup you are brewing. Simply fill to the top of the desired disc. This is the only part I thought was a little "touchy" about the MINI Plus. You definitely want to pay attention and not overfill the brewer or the excess will run first into the drip tray underneath and then onto your counter, if it's so full the tray can't contain it. That's why I recommend keeping a close eye if children are using the machine.
I see the same Keurig quality, I have come to know and expect, in this little machine. If you follow the included instructions, using bottled or filtered water, like with all other models, you can enjoy years of variety and deliciousness from your liquid refreshments. Our Special Edition is still going strong and gets a lot of wear and tear from this big family. The MINI Plus is super simple to operate, too; and has many of the same features we have come to love in our bigger model. For instance, I can choose from three different cup sizes. It has a removable drip tray, which makes it easy to clean and helps to accommodate taller mugs or even short drinking glasses. I can brew hot or cold beverages with it and any K-Cup flavor works in it.
This handy drip tray catches any spills you make or overflow if the reservoir is too full AND it is removable so taller mugs can be used. Great feature!
When you buy a Keurig brewer, it’s important to pick the size and style that fits YOUR specific needs and believe me, they have something for everyone! There are three things, specific to it’s design and it’s intended use, that make the Keurig MINI Plus not as good an option for our beverage guzzling family, and more appropriate for a small space used by only one or two people.
- One thing I did notice is that you really need to be aware of what you’re doing when you fill the machine. Overfilling the water reservoir can result in a big mess on your counter, so I would definitely say, the MINI Plus is not as child-friendly as our Special Edition brewer. It is definitely important to be paying attention to the process.
- Also, because it’s made for small spaces, it can’t accommodate my big iced tea glasses. It is definitely designed with the hot beverage drinker in mind, although it IS possible for you to put ice in a mug and brew cold beverages.
- And you can only add enough water to make one cup at a time. This means the water isn’t heated until you start the brewing process. It’s around two minutes from start to finish, which isn’t a big deal for one person. But if all the kids and grandbabies want hot chocolate and hubby wants his coffee and I need a glass of iced tea, the Special Edition is our perfect solution. The MINI Plus is ideal for a college student or in your workshop, but our family loves the option of the large, always ready reservoir of our Special Edition Brewer.
Once the reservoir has your desired amount of water, turn the power on to your MINI Plus.
Load your favorite K-Cup flavor and then close the holder. When the lid goes down, you will hear the water stream from the reservoir into the machine to be heated. (Note: Using my large, over-sized mug means removing the drip tray for this brewing. I love having that option!)
Once the lid is closed, the brew button will flash blue. Press it and it will continue to flash, only in red, as the water is heated and your beverage is brewed.
It only takes around two minutes from the time the water begins heating until your cup is being filled! Mmmm...Apple Cider!
Our MINI Plus arrived with 12 K-Cup samples in the box and we are enjoying testing each one, as well as brewing old favorites. With fall peeking around the corner, promising to be here soon, I’m longing for cool, crisp evenings on the deck with a cup of hot apple cider and good friends to visit with. Mmmm! Plus, it’s almost time to make Apple Cider Doughnut Holes! What a great snack for fall! With my Keurig brewers, I don’t have to run to the store to buy a gallon jug of cider before I can whip up a batch. With the handy K-Cups already on hand, I can fresh brew the Hot Apple Cider, in just the amount I need and have a fabulous autumn snack in no time at all. (Be watching for the recipe in an upcoming post! You’re going to LOVE them!)

And for those of you, like us, who are still enjoying those hot days of Summer, Southern Sweet Tea from Celestial Seasonings, is one of many iced tea varieties that your family can enjoy to cool off and feel refreshed. Our family enjoys several of them. Believe it or not, I and my youngest LOVE to brew the English Breakfast Black Tea K-Cups from Celestial Seasonings over ice. It’s the perfect unsweetened flavor for our thirsty tastebuds! My husband thinks everything is better with sugar, though, so he loves the Half & Half K-Cups, (half lemonade, half tea). No matter what your taste, there is a K-Cup that will fit it, your mood and the season perfectly!
These are the flavors that came in the K-Cup Sampler with the MINI Plus we reviewed.
My husband is the resident coffee connoisseur in our home and that’s where Keurig has become my best friend. Rather than buying large cans or bags of coffee and beans, that can be so expensive and often sit in the cupboard until they are stale and unappealing, I can have a large variety of K-cups available for him, so he can “mix-it up” and enjoy something different every day if he chooses. He has his tried and true favorites like Nantucket Blend, but he loves to experiment and try new flavors, too. Right now he is loving Van Houtte Cafe’s French Vanilla and Barista Prima Coffeehouse’s French Roast.
And for those cool nights on the way, the kids and I always look forward to steamy, sweet and spicy mugs of Cafe Express Chai Latte (My girls call it Thanksgiving in a cup. 
) and Cafe Express Dark Hot Chocolate or Milk Hot Chocolate. Perfect treats for warming you right down to your toes on a crisp, fall evening!

I would love a mini brewer to donate to my college library. I’m a student worker there and it gets very cold on the campus (machias,maine) from october till april and would love a warm drink in the day. The other students and I have requested one but the budget doesn’t have the extra money. A mini brewer would fit perfectly in the back room and the fact that a person has to make each cup at a time is great! That way there is no left over water at the end of the day.

I would Love this as well as sometimes hubby is not home and I could spoil myself plus my apartment is tiny and it would not take up much space. I foillowed you in all the ways you asked and Tweeted and shared on Facebook as well.
I would love a mini Keurig to use in my 4 school offices that have limited space and no ‘community coffee’ available for the staff. It would be wonderful to come in from the cold winter weather and enjoy a good cup of Green Mountain Columbian before the school day begins.
At home I love my Platinum Keurig for coffees, tea and hot chocolate. Love love the Chai tea. Clean=up is a dream, no messy grounds or scorched coffee to deal with!
My home machine is the Keurig Platinum but I’d love mini for my office! The Breville is my dream machine.

My sister has this coffee maker and it is so user friendly. I would love this Mini Keurig Plue Brewer for our kitchen, it is so nice that if one person wants coffee stronger than another they have their choice w/out brewing diff pots. Maybe one will want coffee and another hot chocolate etc. Love the red color too!

I would go with either the mini OR the elite. I like the size of the mini for my crowded kitchen counters (And for taking camping), but I like the convenient size of the reservoir on the elite. I can’t tell you how many times the past year at college I have had to secretly smuggle coffee out of the dining hall in my thermos- and now that I’m not on a freshman meal plan I’m not sure how I will stay awake without it- The MINI plus would actually be perfect for me, as I have limited space and the removable drip tray would let me fill up my to-go mug! This would be a lifesaver

I just can’t decide! At this moment I would say the mini because we are not huge coffee drinkers but I think that my 17&15 yr olds would end up loving it and then it would be too small and I would go for a platinum.

I think the Mini would be perfect for us. We aren’t huge coffee drinkers, but it would be nice to try all the neat flavors of K-Cups I see in stores! I also don’t have a lot of free counter space in my kitchen so I wouldn’t have room for one of the bigger machines. Thanks for the contest!
I like the special edition brewing machine, there’s 3 cup settings and lots of water storage. I’d use it at home and would get a nice storage tree for the k-cups!

The Mini Keurig would be such a wonderful gift for my 18yr old son who has just moved in his dorm!! With myself being a college student as well, expenses have somewhat overwhelmed us this semester, and getting the opportunity to register to win a brewer for him is such a blessing!! He definitely is his momma’s boy, as we both LOVE our coffee!! We love our Keurig at home, and enjoy several flavors, just got new ones in this week from Keurig.com! I love the Keurig Platinum for home because it does everything and we have a busy family of coffee and tea drinkers and the speed in which this Keurig brews fits our family, also it will accommodate 5 different cup sizes and travel mugs. The Keurig Mini would be perfect for our RV as it does almost as much as the bigger Keurig, but is compact and will fit in a small space.

Actually the mini would be perfect for me. My husband doesn’t enjoy coffee or tea and I’m not a huge drinker of either but there are times when I just crave a cup and don’t have anything, it is also good to have when company likes a cup.

I have an office so small that i share with another person that i don’t have to even leave my chair to leave the room, just rotate my chair 180 degrees and i am outside the door. i haven’t even slid the pocket door closed because it might cause a problem with my claustrophobia. I recently purchased my first Keurig brewer. (I got the Elite) I am not sure how I ever managed to live without it. I LOVE it and am hopelessly addicted…so much so that I want the Mini to take along with me when I travel. I can’t imagine one morning without my K cups now. They need to make a car adapter for it so you can even take it camping!!!

I think the MINI would work best for us. My husband is not a coffee drinker, and I’m not either most mornings. But when I want a cup, I have to make a whole pot of coffee, which ends up being wasted. And with each cup taking only 2 minutes, I think that even on the rare occasion when we both want a cup of coffee, it wouldn’t be a big deal.

I love this one which is perfect but I would also love the Keurig elite brewing system, Hubby works and leave at 7:00 a.m and needs his cup of coffee I however stay home with our son all day and get up around 9:00 a.m and also need my cup of coffee so this would allow us both to have the coffee we want *fresh* and that is so important when it comes to coffee

I like the Keurig Elite brewing system for our home because we could brew exactly what flavor we are in the mood for.
My favorite is the Keurig Special Edition brewer because it is perfect for our newlywed household and for my love of entertaining guests in my home because of all the flavors available to choose from.

We would love the Special Edition so we could easily share the awesomeness of Keurig, but honestly the MINI would probably work just fine for my girlfriend and I since we’d use it primarily for early morning pick-me-ups!

I think the Special Edition Keurig would be amazing to have with the three different cup sizes, but the MINI is also great because of the small amount of counterspace it uses.

My fella & family aren’t coffee or tea drinkers… only myself, so it would be perfect! Ive forgone having a coffee pot or anything like it because it seemed pointless to take up all of that room, but buying coffee at a coffee shop has killed my wallet. With the mini, I wouldnt have to make a huge pot, or have a large Keurig taking up space on our counters. It would be a little treat all for myself! I would choose the Keurig Mini. It would be perfect for my office. Often, I get to work, and am craving another cup of coffee. We don’t make coffee in our work coffee makers anymore because people forgot to clean them out, and they are gross now. This would be perfect for that extra jolt.

The Keurig B155 Brewing System would be my first selection — A family member owns this model and it’s Fantastic — however, a mini Keurig would fit so well in my tiny pantry . These Keurigs are an awesome giveaway!
