We adopted a new doll into our family, last week! Her name is DeeDee and she’s part of the new Gund Girls collection.

DeeDee is the dollwe received to review from the Gund Girls collection.
Gund Girls are 17-inches of soft, plushy adorable! They are recommended for ages 3 and up and come with one removable outfit for playing dress-up. The dolls in this collection are “best friends in fashion”. Each of the seven Gund Girls has her own fashion flair and personality. Our DeeDee, for example, loves to travel and have adventures with her friends. Her favorite color is lavender, which matches her eyes. The cool part is that their outfits are interchangeable, so if you own more than one, you KNOW they will be trading clothes! A girl’s gotta do, what a girl’s gotta do. :)

What do I love about the Gund Girls? Though they are “plushies” they are durable, and seem very well-made. And then, there’s that “plushy” part. They’re soft — perfect for hugging and for taking a nap with. They have big, adorable, over-stuffed feet with bright-colored shoes. Who doesn’t love some pretty shoes, right? Everything about the dolls is colorful and appealing. When my granddaughters are here, they want to take DeeDee everywhere they go.
Any toy that encourages imagination the way a doll does, is a favorite on my list. No batteries to replace, no advanced technological degrees required — just good, old-fashioned fun and brain-power. You never have to tell a child how to play with a doll. Their creativity just automatically goes into high gear, and before long, you hear little snippets of “conversation” and witness all kinds of wonderful imaginative play. That’s exactly what’s been happening at our house. DeeDee is always swinging on the arm of one granddaughter or the other. And once in a while, their little brother hauls out the Rescue Heroes police car or high-jacks the Barbie jeep and takes her for a spin. I found her like this after the kids left, last evening.

Out for a spin in the Rescue Heroes police car. I found her, this way, after the grandkids had gone home. DeeDee gets around!

The CAT Tough Tracks Free-Wheeling Dump Truck arrived for me to review, thanks to Team Mom and Toy State Toys. I waited with great anticipation for my almost two-year-old grandson to arrive and test it out. He is in love with anything on wheels and finding the fun surprise of the included hard-hat, made the package even more exciting! I knew it was going to be perfect for the sandbox.

Unfortunately, the Nebraska weather hasn’t cooperated very well with sandbox activities on the days this sweet little bubby gets to visit. Undaunted by rain or lack of sand, we pulled the toys from the package and created our construction site, right in the living room.

Trying on the hard hat.
The truck is nice for small hands. It’s sturdy, but not so large that it was hard for my grandson to handle. He pushes it “around the loop” of the dividing wall between our front room and kitchen. He can make 10 or 15 laps without a break and each time he rounds the turn to go out of sight for a moment he calls out, “Bye, Gumma! Yater!” (That’s “see ya later” in two-year-old.)
The heavy plastic is easy to wipe clean if a stray, sticky finger print manages to attach itself, as well. The hat is adjustable, so we were quickly able to make it fit my grandson’s head. I believe that there are untold miles to be put on this dump truck, when the weather is nice enough to be outside and in the sand. In the meantime, as you can see, the weather hasn’t slowed us down!

Getting the dump truck loaded up.
We loved the CAT Tough Tracks Dump Truck. There are two other pieces in the Tough Tracks Collection, too — a wheel loader and a bulldozer. Be sure to check them out, along with all the other creative and imagination-building toys available from Toy State.

And now Gumma has to wear the hat. It's all in the name of thorough testing. - lol
I was sent the CAT Tough Tracks Free-Wheelin’ Dump Truck and Hard Hat from Toy State, through Team Mom, in order to test it and conduct this review. No monetary compensation was received and a positive review was not required. As always, the views and opinions expressed are wholly my own.

Mega Bloks are a family favorite, in our household; and their new Dora’s Garden Gazebo set has only reinforced that! I had the chance to review this fun toy with our 3- and 4-year-old granddaughters, over the weekend, and was so tickled to see the fun they had. The toy is designed for ages 3 and up and has the same “chunky” pieces we are used to with Mega Bloks, but it includes more than just blocks. The pieces can be used to build a “gazebo” and also includes a Dora the Explorer figure, a second skirt (yup! Dora can change clothes.), bluebird, fence, watering can, flower pot, flower, evergreen tree, umbrella, and picnic table. AND, with only 19 pieces, it is easy to gather them back into the box when play is finished.

Two happy Dora fans!
The one possible drawback, if you can call it that, is that some of the pieces are small. If you have a toddler who enjoys putting things in their mouth, this could obviously pose a choking hazard, which is clearly stated on the packaging. I know most of you, like me, understand what “ages 3 and up” means, and exercise common sense and good judgment in your own personal circumstances. My not-quite-two grandson (He’s not really a “taste everything” sort of toddler), engaged in play with this toy several times over the weekend, with my close supervision, and had an absolute blast. Would I leave him alone with it? No! Did he benefit from playing with it while I kept a close watch? Absolutely! Now on to the good stuff! What did I love about it?

A closeup of one setup. They were playing at the kitchen counter while I cooked.

A change of location and a whole new adventure.
Mega Bloks never disappoints our family, when it comes to creative learning toys that even younger children can enjoy and learn from! Really, their toys are good for such a wide age-range, depending on which toys you select. If you haven’t experienced their fine products, I hope you’ll visit their website and learn more about them. A new feature of that website is their Mega Bloks Family Club, where you will find special offers, contests, sweepstakes and promotions on lots of Mega Bloks toys; as well as an educational and informative blog, the opportunity to receive a free email newsletter AND a COUPON for $5 off $30 in Mega Bloks toys, just for signing up!
