Sam’s Club is one of my favorite stores for stocking up on household essentials.  Buying in bulk is an excellent way to save money and I’m never disappointed by the quality of the products I purchase there.  Two of my favorite budget savers are the 25 lb bags of all purpose flour and 10 lb bags of flash-frozen chicken breasts.  Sam’s Club is well aware of the costs and stresses involved in getting our students well equipped for college or for being on their own for the first time.  Our nineteen-year-old moved into her first place, roommates and all, this past weekend; and the products in our “Back to Class pack from Sam’s Club, have already been put to good use! Back-to-School with my Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator

The timing couldn’t be better for my review of the Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator.  We kicked off the new homeschool year, this week, and I’ve already put the easy-to-use laminator to good use.  Previously, laminating a sheet for lessons meant that I had to wrestle long, unwieldy sheets of clear contact paper, hope to apply it without bubbles or wrinkles and then flip the project, hoping to do the same thing to the back side.  Needless to say, the results were often less than professional and sometimes required starting the project over.

Fellowes laminator

My new Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator - Absolutely LOVE how it's speeding up my back-to-school tasks!

Numerous times throughout our school year, I will print sheets or cards that will be used multiple times in the course of a project or unit. Rather than having to reprint them each time I need one or because they were damaged in some way, I prefer to increase their durability and usefulness by laminating them.  This is great for things like maps, preposition lists, spelling rules, flash cards, times table sheets, paragraph writing examples, schedules, etc. Another cool thing about laminated sheets is that you can use dry erase markers on them. This is the perfect solution for handwriting practice!  The same sheets can be used over and over, again, to master letter formations.

peeling laminating sheet

It's easy to use the laminating sheets. They are sealed at one end and open on the other three sides.

laminating sheet sealed end

Peel it back and arrange your product, smoothing it back into place over your project by starting from the sealed end. You will load the project into your laminator, sealed end first.

select

By selecting the correct laminating sheet thickness, and depressing that button, the laminator will begin heating up. The LED light blinks until the heat-up is complete. Then the machine beeps and the light stops blinking. It's ready to load.

It was no surprise as we got busy with our first day of work, that I already had a sheet that needed some reinforcement.  The program I use for grammar starts the year by having the kids memorize a list of  prepositions.  Once they’ve mastered the list, it’s easy to break down the structure of a sentence, eliminating the prepositions and their phrases to find the core grammatical elements of that sentence. The trick, though, is mastering that list of prepositions.  Rather than putting up a wall chart or having them flip back to the front of their book, each time they want to check and be sure, I simply print out the list, one time, and laminate it.  They keep the list with their school books and we get a full year of use from that one sheet.

loading laminating sheet

I inserted the laminating sheet into the appliance, sealed-side first, and it began to auto-feed through.

It was the perfect test for the Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator.  The unit required no special setup.  It was as simple as removing it from the box and plugging it in.  I can heat laminate using either a 3 mil thickness or 5 mil thickness laminating sheet, meaning I have choices about how stiff I want the finished project to be.  Also, the laminator can take projects up to 9 1/2″ wide and has Heat Guard Technology, which allows all the heat to be contained inside the walls of the well-insulated laminator.  I love that it is safe to use and have around even with the grandkids in the house.  I don’t have to worry about curious fingers being burned.

eject

In only a matter of seconds, the sheet was ejected from the back of the laminator, perfectly sealed much more sturdy than when I had fed it through. Perfect!

Another great feature is the Release Lever, that allows me to make last-minute adjustments or to straighten a project that wasn’t loaded properly and so caused a jam.  The controls are simple.  Use the power button to turn the machine on.  Wait for it to heat, which is indicated by a blinking green LED light and then, and when the light stops blinking, the unit beeps, and you are ready to laminate. Simply select the thickness of the laminating sheets you will be using and then load the sealed side of the project into the appliance. Your laminated item will eject from the back of the unit, fully sealed and protected.

list

Beautifully laminated, protected and ready for a year of use in our homeschool grammar class.

Laminating using the Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator was so fast and easy, I NEVER want to go back to messing with contact paper!  I’m hooked and I can think of dozens of new ways to use it.  Crafts, dry-erase calendar sheets, flash cards, dry-erase grocery lists, chore charts, preserving artwork, report covers and so much more.  I’m on a laminating “roll” and thanks to Fellowes, Busy-at-Home readers can be, too!  You’ll SAVE $30 when you start preserving and protecting your own projects with the Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator. From now through August 25th, use the PROMO CODE: 87298, at staples.comto receive $30 off your online purchase!

cleaning page

A cleaning sheet was included in the package of laminating pockets. After a heated lamination, the sheet is run through to make sure no glue residue or other debris is left on the rollers.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Fellowes and received a product sample to facilitate my review.  No monetary compensation was received.  As with all Busy-at-Home reviews, the views and opinions expressed are wholly my own and based on my personal experience with the product.

It’s that time of year, again, and it promises to be just as hectic as all the years before it.  :)  Back-to-school signals so many things, cooler weather, more structured and scheduled days and more activity to squeeze into that structure.  Finding the time to shop and prep for the kids moving back into their academic activities can leave us with our heads spinning, finding it hard to believe all that they will need to complete their assigned tasks.  One name that I KNOW I can count on, without even having to think about it, for back-to-school is Crayola. A new box of 64 with a sharpener built into the back was the pinnacle of my school bag treasures, back in the day; and Crayola is still the name I trust when I shop for supplies that will help my kids and grandkids pursue their creative talents.

string cheese

Polly-O/ Kraft String Cheese comes in several delicious varieties. I bought Mozzarella and Twists. You can see that my package of Twists had the $3 Crayola coupon inside!

I love that Kraft and Crayola know exactly what busy moms like us are feeling, thinking about and experiencing as fall and a new school year approaches; and I think it’s particularly cool that they have teamed up this summer to make it a little easier for us to fill up the book bags and satisfy the after-school munchies.  From now through September 30th, specially marked packages of Polly-O/ Kraft String Cheese will contain $3.00 coupons off Crayola products.  It’s a perfect time to stock up on your family’s favorite string cheese varieties.  Regular Mozzarella, Mozzarella made with 2% milk, Twist, and Twist made with 2% milk are the varieties participating in the coupon campaign, but I’ve noticed a couple of new flavors of Kraft String Cheese, at our market, that I want to try, too.  Those are Jalapeno and Tomato Basil.  Yum!  Any of the flavors would be a delicious part of an after school snack or a quick and easy treat in a lunchbox!  Check out this fun recipe page with ideas to really get creative with Kraft String Cheese.  Here’s another recipe that I dreamed up and works as a quick, cold snack for the kids; or broiled, becomes an elegant and delicious appetizer.

caprese appetizers

Delicious Caprese Bites made with Kraft Mozzarella String Cheese.

Easy Caprese Bites

Easy Caprese Bites

Ingredients

  • 12-15 large cherry or flavorino tomatoes
  • 3 Kraft Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
  • 12-15 fresh basil leaves
  • optional: few drops balsamic vinegar or salad dressing
  • optional: 2 Tablespoons Italian Bread Crumbs
  • optional: 1 teaspoon melted butter

Instructions

  1. Cut cheese sticks into 5 or 6 equal pieces.
  2. Wash tomatoes and slice the tip off the narrow end, leaving the wide, flat side to stand them on.
  3. Cut about 1/3 of the way down through the center of the tomato, turn it and cut 1/3 of the way down through the center, again, to create a cross.
  4. Wrap a basil leaf around a cheese chunk and push them into the center of the cross you cut in the top of a tomato.
  5. Repeat until each tomato has been stuffed.
  6. Chill and serve with your kids' favorite salad dressing, a drop of balsamic vinegar or just plain.
  7. Optional: I didn't get a good picture of these, but they were delicious. To serve hot, I mixed the bread crumbs and melted butter, then sprinkled some bread crumbs over the top of each tomato and heated under the broiler until the crumbs were golden brown and the cheese softened. The cheese chunks are too large to actually melt, but they began to get pretty soft on the top and heating melded the flavors, beautifully. Yum!

I am very fortunate to be able to participate in Elmer’s Bag-It-Forward program, again, this year.  If you have never participated, you’re going to love it; and for those of you who are veterans, it’s time once again, to break out the school supplies and show us your wonderful servant’s heart!  The Bag-It-Forward program inspires people in communities all around the country to make a gift of school supplies to students or teachers who may not have the resources to acquire all that they need.  It doesn’t have to be expensive to be a fabulous surprise and meet a genuine need.  As a matter of fact, shopping at Walmart allowed me to purchase even more quality school supplies than I had originally expected, meaning even more students can be helped.

display rack

Our local Walmart has a display with school supply lists for each school and grade in our community and surrounding towns. This lets parents know exactly what their kids need.

 1st Day app

The QR code on the display can be scanned with your smartphone and will download the Elmer's 1st Day app.

This year, Elmer’s has taken Bag-It Forward one step further.  Their new app for smart phones, can be downloaded by scanning the QR code on the Back-to-School List Displays in most Walmart stores.  I downloaded the Elmer’s 1st Day App to my phone, right there in the store.  The app allows you to take pictures of your kids’ “first days” in school, each year and of other significant events in their lives and then organize them in a sort of digital photo journal, adding captions and notes to share the memories.  For each picture uploaded through the app, Elmer’s will donate one product to the Children in Need Foundation.  How awesome is that!??

Urban Impact

New Orleans Mission Trip 2012

I am so blessed, and forever changed, to have been able to spend the past week, serving children in New Orlean’s 3rd ward, through a ministry called Urban Impact.  Our mission trip included 13 adults and 34 teenagers who set out with hearts to serve, only to find that we were the ones so immeasurably impacted.  Urban Impact ‘s motto is ”  Creating a neighborhood in New Orleans where kids can ride their bikes: to a home their family owns, to a safe place to gather, to a church that cares, and to schools of excellence.”  Through the summer they run Day Camp, taking vans out into the projects and bringing children to the church, so they can enjoy Bible class, Arts and Crafts and Sports.  In the summer evenings, Urban Impact goes to the kids; taking teams of volunteers into the parks in the various projects and running Challenge Circles (similar to AWANA Circle), playing games and just interacting with, and loving on, the kids in the neighborhoods.   They also provide some after-school homework help programs during the school year and provide many other resources and helps in the community.

Layer 1

The first layer of school supplies packed into the box we shipped to New Orleans!

My week was filled with children who stole my heart as I interacted with them in classes and in the parks.  Other members of our team served kids and their families by mowing, cleaning homes or cleaning up lots.  Some of our guys played basketball with older teens and young adults in the projects, sharing sportsmanship and the love of Christ in their speech and conduct.  From the moment I, and the rest of my team, entered a room or stepped onto a playground, children would rush up from all directions asking to “ride our neck”, braid our hair, paint our nails  :) or play football or frisbee or just sit and talk to us.  The unconditional love they showered on us was both thrilling and overwhelming. Looking around, their need was obvious, but they were happy and loving — desiring nothing more than any other child — attention, someone to listen to them, someone to play with them, someone to invest their time and to love them.  Do you know how incredibly easy that was?  The hardest part was hugging them good-bye at the end of the trip.

Layer 2

The next layer. I'm so excited to be Bagging-It-Forward to these awesome kids!

I believe God uses everything and I believe that the timing of my trip was not an accident.  While I received so much, by being there, I was also overwhelmed with the desire to be able to do something that would have an impact or help out beyond the short time I was physically able to be there.  The needs of the children are many, and the ministry that serves them relies on donations to provide for those needs.  The Bag-it-Forward program kicking off this week, is perfect timing, and made up my mind to a way that I might be able to  help out, even in a small way.  I decided to make my Back-to-School kit and ship it to Urban Impact, to use in the Day Camp, after-school program or for individual kids that may have a specific need.  Do you have any idea what a kick it was to go shopping, knowing where those school supplies were going?!!  I’m so excited!

backpacks! Some for boys and some for girls!

Who do you know that could benefit from even a small gift of school supplies?  Can you picture the excitement and enthusiasm they would feel receiving it?  I’ll bet we all know someone; and the cost to help is so small.  I hope you will put together your own Bag-It-Forward Back to School kit and share with a student or teacher in need.  Your act of kindness will not only bless them, but you as well!  It’s easy to get involved.  If you have questions, visit the Bag-It-Forward website, follow Elmer’s on Twitter or check them out out on Facebook.  There is even a Bag-It-Forward Pinterest page to inspire you and get those creative ideas flowing!

Even though it’s hard to accept, summer is nearly behind us and the days when our family needs to be more structured and organized with their time are fast approaching.  I used to be so good at that – juggling all the necessary “mom” hats and staying focused.  The older I get, the more their seems to be to organize, though, (or maybe it’s just another attack of menopausal Jello brains!).  But, believing that every word He breathes is truth, I know that the Lord will never give me more than I can handle, with His help.  “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. – Phillipians 4:13″.  I LOVE that verse.  It always calms my spirit to remember that I’m not being asked to figure it all out and do it in my own steam.  If I’m called to do something, it is through Christ’s help that I will accomplish it.  I decided to ask Him to develop my focus in the areas where I was falling short.  I needed to quit just plowing through and trying to do anything and everything as fast as I could, as often as I was asked, and start letting the Lord show me the best way to organize my time, (Yes, letting.  Isn’t it funny that we forget He doesn’t force us to do anything?  We have to consciously and willingly give over our burdens and struggles to Him.) my family’s schedule for home and school and balance it with time for blogging, outside activity and a date night or two (remember those? :) to keep our marriage strong and us on the same track. )  What started developing in my mind was a calendar system that was large enough not to be overlooked and to have space enough to write EVERYTHING.  It is still an evolving project and after I have shown you how I made it, I will share my plans for expanding it.  The key to being able to be flexible within a plan is to first have a plan.  Just doing whatever comes up, willy nilly, is not being flexible.  It’s being burned out!

scheduler

My finished scheduler/organizer board.

So I decided to get my Cricut Craft Cutter out of the box it’s been in since we moved and put it to good use on this project.  (Remember, I shared my last Cricut projects with you, HERE.)  Using it and an Elmer’s Tri-Fold Board, I was convinced that the organizer tool being laid on my heart was going to be a cinch to create.  I was right!  The end result was fantastic!  I’m so excited to put it to good use.   I hope this project can inspire you to invest in the best uses of your time for you and your own family.

The first thing I needed to do was visit my local Wal-Mart and get the Elmer’s Tri-Fold Board and a few more items on my list.  You can view my ThisMoment slideshow about the shopping trip, HERE.  Here’s how I assembled the Schedule Board/Organizer for our family, when I got back home.

Materials Used

  • Elmer’s Tri-fold Board
  • Elmer’s Dual Tip Glue Pen
  • Cricuit Expressions Craft Cutter
  • Cricut Cartridges: A Walk in My Garden; Plantin’ School Box; Tags, Bags, Boxes and More and Animal Kingdom
  • various cardstock scraps, sheets and supplies I had on hand
  • sticky-backed velcro dots and strips
  • self-stick laminating pockets
  • clear contact paper

Directions:

  1. I laminated my Elmer’s Tri-Fold Board with clear Contact paper.  This board is going to get USED and handled.  I wanted to protect it from sticky fingerprints and give it even more strength.  It will be easy to wipe clean, now, if it does get smudged up.
    covering with contact paper

Covering the Elmer's Tri-Fold Board with contact paper. I had to do two full-width strips and then a narrow strip across the top.

    2.  The next thing I did was make the Month Title Strips.  To cut the shapes I used a pad of long cardstock sheets that I had.  They were 12″x24″ and several different pastel colors.  I loaded a green sheet into my Cricut Craft Cutter, used my Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge and cut these strips.

    green paper strips

I cut these title strips from green cardstock on my Cricut. I cut several from other colors, as well. I glued a green strip onto a slightly larger gold strip to create a "frame".

  2. To cut the letters for the Title Strip, I used some glitter paper I had on hand and my Plantin’ Schoolbox Cricut cartridge.  I also cut slightly larger black letters to add a “shadow” to my glittered letters.
    cut-out letters

I cut the letters for the month name from colored glitter cardstock and black cardstock. The black was cut slightly larger to create a shadow.

    shadow letter

I glued the glitter letters on top of the black letters to create a shadow and help them "stand out".

    August

Here is the finished title strip. I covered it, front and back, with clear contact paper. This will make it durable and help to keep it clean, since it will be getting handled regularly. You can see I decorated it with some flowers. Those were cut with the A Walk in My Garden Cricut cartridge. I will make a different title strip for each month, decorated for the common season or holidays of that month, and be able to interchange them as the months change. One project with unlimited usefulness! I love that.

  3. For the Days of the Week, I used my Animal Kingdom cartridge to cut 14 small rectangles — 6 gold and 6 peach.   I used the Plantin’ School Book cartridge to cut black letters.  I glued the gold rectangles onto the peach and then centered the black letters onto the gold rectangles.
    Sunday

Creating the days of the week was pretty simple. I glued the two rectangles together so that the peach created a shadow, behind the gold.

    letters on day strip

I glued the black letters to the rectangles. These Day Titles probably won't get moved around much, but I still laminated them in the end, to keep them clean and increase durability.

  4. Next, I wanted to create individual “cards” that would represent each date on our calendar.  I used the Tags, Bags Boxes and More cartridge in my Cricut and created the cards, then I cut the same pattern on the Cricut’s “window” setting and cut frames just slightly smaller than the cards.  I used different pastel shades of cardstock to create the “cards”.
    Cricut cartridge

Inserting cartridge into my Cricut Expressions craft cutter.

    calendar cards

I cut the card and frame from contrasting papers, to give them a little "pop".

    glued card

I glued the frames to the cards and added a number to the top of each one. I made enough to have 31 days.

    laminating pouches

I had these self-sealing laminating pouches in my craft tub and they worked perfectly for protecting the cards. The added bonus is that they can be written on with a dry erase marker and then wiped clean, again.

    calendar days

I needed to lay out all the cards and establish some sort of random pattern before numbering and laminating them, so I would be pleased with the final "look".

Laminating the cards is easy. Lay it face down on the clear plastic. Then peel away the backing and lay the sticky side over the back. Press and rub the back to make sure there are no air bubbles and the edges have sealed. Then trim away the excess. I DID try using contact paper for this step, however, dry erase marker did not erase from it as cleanly, so the self-sealing laminating pouches were the best solution.

    dry erase

See how easily the writing erases. Perfect! This calendar/schedule board will last for years!

  5.  Sticky-backed velcro strips to hang everything on the board were my next steps in this process.  I want to be able to move the numbers around as the months change, as well as remove and replace the cards to write on or erase them.  I added one strip to hang the Month names on and five strips to hang the numbered cards from.  Once the strips were attached to the board, the Month and Day names and the individual date cards each got their own velcro strip on the back and everything was put into place.
    title velcro

The Month Name strip will hang from the top velcro strip

    velcro strips

These five strips of velcro are to hang the numbered date cards from. I realized after sticking these down that I left out a row for the day names, so I added an extra strip directly above and below the top strip (They are actually touching). So, it ended up being one very wide velcro strip that the day names and the first row of numbered date cards attach to.

  6. I wanted the two side panels to be used for 1) the kids’ school assignments (Since we homeschool, this would be especially helpful.), 2)  the kids’ chore assignments 3)  my blogging schedule and 4)  a personal schedule.  These side panels are still a work in progress, with the ideas swirling and congealing in my mind.  In the meantime, I wanted to create name title cards for each of the kids and give you an idea of how the side panels can be used.
  7. To create the kid’s name titles, I used my Plantin’ School Books cartridge to cut out the letters and shadows for the letters, for each of their names.  Then I used the A Walk in my Garden Cartridge to cut a large flower border to put Larissa’s name on and the Plantin’ School Books cartridge to cut a big zigzag to put behind Michael’s name.  I added a dark brown border around Michael’s completed name.  Both name tags were covered in clear contact paper and had velcro strips added to the back.

Larissa's name tag before being covered with clear contact paper.

Michael's name mounted on the zigzag. I also added a brown border behind that, before I covered it with clear contact paper.

  8. I typed up an assignment sheet and a chore chart/ special activities sheet for each child, covered them in clear contact paper (This is how I found out dry erase doesn’t work on contact paper.) and mounted them onto the velcro strips I had placed on the two side panels of the Elmer’s Tri-Fold board.

I absolutely love the way this schedule/organizer turned out.  It is reusable for as long as we want, because everything is laminated and easy to wipe down, not to mention extra sturdy.  Each month, I can simply change out the month name strip and replace it with the next one, since they are all mounted with velcro.  The numbered date cards will be easy to shift, as the month changes, on their handy velcro strips and I can erase and re-write our appointments and important dates on them as they arise.

The side panels are still evolving in my mind, but you have an idea of what you can do, now.  Elmer’s Tri Fold Board was perfect for this project!

back-to-schoolWhen it comes to school supplies, in 2011, Back-to-School means a lot more than just paper, crayons and pencils.    Technology is a HUGE part of our childrens’ lives AND educations.  Whether they attend public or private school or are homeschooled, our kids work with computers, the Internet and related technology on a daily basis.  As parents, knowing which equipment they need, has value and is reliable, can sometimes be a challenge.

I wouldn’t call myself a techie, by any stretch of the imagination, but let’s just say our family has been using home computers since before there was a Windows.  :)   Our two oldest daughters did elementary school on a green screen monitor and in MS-DOS.  In first grade our second daughter was typing game codes out in BASIC, to install them, before she could play.  She even wrote a few programs in that ancient language.

Linksys E4200 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N Router - Be sure to enter to win one in the giveaway at the end of this post!

I upload, download, install software and troubleshoot basic computer problems (and for tough ones I have built-in personal tech support from two learned brothers-in-law!).  I have no problems opening up and upgrading computers, installing memory, new CD drives or hard drives and I can install most peripherals without much difficulty.  I have a rough idea of what internal components I want when I’m looking for a new computer and I taught myself HTML back in 1997, so I could build a curriculum business website.   I can FTP files where I want them to go and after some training from my kids, I Facebook and Twitter with the best of them.  I connected and secured our home network for our PC, 4 laptops, 2 game systems and wireless printer.  I don’t tell you all these things to boast, but to establish a modicum of credibility when it comes to discussing a topic that we haven’t covered in much depth, here at Busy-at-Home, home computing.  Now, that I have established, that, I want you to understand that I know very little about the technical side of making an internet connection faster.  I just know that I expect it.  :)

What I do know, with absolute certainty, is that when it comes to Internet speed and reliability, I’m sort of a snob.  I don’t know how to make it happen, but I certainly expect my ISP and equipment to deliver it.  lol  With all the jobs I do in our home, plus homeschooling and blogging, plus the activities I and our kids are involved in outside of home, I have no patience with slow or unreliable Internet connections.  Whether I am uploading pictures to edit for the blog or the kids are doing research for  a school project or even just streaming some video, I need it to work and I need it quick.  We could never go back, now that we have had cable internet for so many years.  There is simply no comparison in the speeds between it and even the best dial-ups.  However, no matter how fast your cable ISP can feed the connection TO your equipment,  the equipment you run it through can definitely make a huge difference in the speed you actually experience as you are computing.  So, one, you need a quality, high-speed modem and two, if you are like our family, running a huge network of computers, peripherals, game systems, iPads and fancy phones, you need a fabulous router.  You need a router that disseminates that signal to each and every device with speed and reliability.

We have used a Cisco Linksys router for years, to network our equipment.  We’ve always been pleased with it’s speed and reliability –  until Monday.  That was the day I hooked up our router’s super-buff big brother; and I believe I have achieved a whole new level of Internet speed expectations.  :)   The Linksys E4200 Router from Cisco already had me impressed, right out of the box.  It’s sleek and modern and super lightweight.  It looked great, but we all know that looks are only skin deep.  It’s what’s inside that counts!  I resolved to get it connected and set up.  This “laborious” process took me close to … 10 minutes!  And, that’s only because I was stopping to take blurry less than optimally focused pictures of every single step!  My only issue, in the process, was getting my camera to take a sharp image of the computer monitor.  The router setup was a cinch!  Cisco nailed the simplicity factor on this one!  My ThisMoment slideshow will walk you through the process, step-by-step, with pictures.  You can watch below, or click here to view it full-screen with larger text.

According to Cisco, “The Linksys E4200 wireless router is perfect for anyone interested in building the ultimate connected home. The E4200 is the first building block that can handle gaming consoles, HDTV streaming video, Roku boxes, eReaders, smartphones, and any other wireless device that needs screaming connectivity. Also, with back to school fast approaching, now is a great time for parents to make sure their homes are well-equipped for their kids to succeed academically and maximize learning from home to school.  A simple and cost-effective way to make the home an ideal learning environment is to transform the home into a learning hotspot with home wireless.

Today’s middle and high school students have grown up with mobile technology and feel most comfortable in a wireless environment for anytime/anywhere studying, interactive web research, easy collaboration and communication and parent accessibility.  The wireless home learning environment also more closely aligns with how they use technology at school. The Linksys E4200 Router from Cisco lets parents easily set, use and manage their own home wireless. The E4200 is also perfect for college students setting up wireless in their first home away from home.”

For our family, homeschooling, blogging or just surfing the web, the Linksys E4200 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N Router improves our efficiency, because it has improved our network speed.  I still don’t understand all the technical jargon on Internet speed.  I just know mine is much faster.  I truly did consider that maybe I was just so excited, I was seeing an increase that I wanted to see; but I was completely convinced of the truth of it, when our 15-year-old son wanted to know if I had “tweeked” his computer while he was at work.  According to him, “Everything is running better and faster.”  My husband echoed the same conclusion, when he got home from work.  This is one piece of technology I can endorse with confidence.  Our family loves it!

Well, it’s hard to believe that this crazy, hectic summer is on the downhill side.  Didn’t we just get started with summer?  Oh, well.  Time marches on and so do we.  There are some great things coming up at Busy-at-Home.  Keep your eyes open and your ears listening for :

  1. back to schoolBack-to-School Round Up – We have some great products and sponsors to share with you, for Back-to-School, and the giveaway prizes are awesome!
  2. balloonsMy 50th Birthday Bash! – I know, I know, I’ve been telling everyone for years that I am ten years older than I really am, so they will think I look AMAZING for my age.  My mom and sisters think that reflects poorly on THEIR ages, however, so I’m coming clean, just in time to celebrate a half century of the Lord blessing me on this earth.  My birthday is August 28, so we’ll be celebrating all month long with some great giveaways!
  3. DIY Front Room Makeover Series – We will continue our backyard makeover, as long as the weather holds and we have updates to make, but beginning in September, I’ll be tackling that DIY front room makeover, we talked about before.  Remember, the third living area in our new house, with absolutely NO furniture, except a bookcase?  lol  I guess it’s not really a makeOVER, it’s just a plain old MAKE.  :)   I need lots of ideas and inspiration.  I was thinking of finding a gorgeous area rug and using the colors from that as the color palette for the room.  I’m just not sure, yet.  Be sure to chime in with your own ideas or pictures of your dream “inspiration” rooms.  I’m working hard to find some exceptional sponsors for that event, too, so stay tuned!
  4. Homemade Breakfasts — Fast, Simple and Delish! – Especially with school starting, having a warm, healthy breakfast ready in the morning can be tough, unless we’ve planned ahead.  We’re going to go through tips and tricks for making it fast, simple and delicious.  No one in your house will skip breakfast, again, because “they don’t have time”.  You’ll love these recipes!

So, are you excited, yet?!!!?!  lol  Me, too.  So glad I get to share it with all of you.  You guys rock!

(I’m still accepting sponsors, for each of these events, so if you would like to be included, contact me at glenda@busy-at-home.com, and let me know what products you would like me to consider.  Thanks!)
