For New Year’s Eve, I decided to try to throw some Cake Pops together, at the last minute, for the kids who would be celebrating with us. “At the last minute” is so NOT the way you want to start making cake pops.
But, start I did; and with the help of Wilton’s Silicone Brownie Pops pan, some Wilton Candy Melts and colored sugar, plus the cute Wilton Pops Fun Pix that were included in my kit, I managed to get in some practice and create some yummy fun for our younger guests.
I decorated some pretty in pink princesses by dipping the brownie pops in White Wilton Candy Melts that I had tinted pink with some Wilton gel food coloring. I sprinkled the dipped pop in pink sugar crystals and added a Princess Pops Fun Pix to the top of each pop. Isn’t it cute how the pops form their skirt?

I made some blonde Princess Brownie Pops.

And I made some brunette Princess Brownie Pops.
I also made some jungle animals. The tigers were first dipped in chocolate and then I piped some white Wilton Candy melts tinted with orange gel food coloring over the chocolate. I used a toothpick to swirl the chocolate and orange candy. Then I added a Tiger Pops Fun Pix to the top. While the candy set up, I tinted some white candy melts with green gel food color and then “painted” it onto the inside of a slightly flattened cupcake paper, with a fork. Once the candy hardened, I peeled the cupcake paper away from the candy. This was NOT easy. They ended up breaking into several chunks each time I tried, but that turned out to be okay. I used the rest of the green tinted candy melts to “glue the pieces on the bottom of my tigers (and the lions). I had to hold each pop upside down long enough for the candy “glue” to start to set, then I put the pop in the stand to let it finish hardening.

My first tiger brownie pop, sitting in the candy "grass".

Another one of the tiger pops. The pattern for the "stripes" is different for each depending on how the two colors were swirled together.
Lions were very simple to make — a quick dip in the chocolate and then I inserted the Lion Pops Fun Pix in the top. Once the chocolate was set, I added grass to the bottom of the lions, using the same method I described above, for the tigers.

One of my lion brownie pops.
I also made some very simple pops, dipped in candy melts and/or chocolate and then added some candy sprinkles.

A double dipped brownie pop - first in white candy melts, then after set, a half-dip in the chocolate and then a quick candy sprinkle.
I’ve barely scratched the surface of all the possibilities, but I had fun on this first practice run. Now, I need to get busy and create my own original design for the contest. I think I’ll try the cake pops, this time. If you have a blog and haven’t heard about the contest, but still want to get in on the fun, you can enter the Wilton Cake Pops Contest, too. Entries have to be submitted by January 10 and you can read the rules and submit your entry HERE. The first place winner will receive a $500 VISA gift card and 9 runners-up will win $100 VISA gift cards!

Those are so cute! I would *almost* feel guilty eating them
“Almost” was the way it went down, here, Rachel. They didn’t last long. Thanks for stopping by!
They look fantastic! Ours were very tasty, I made ugly flowers with mine lol
Jess, isn’t that the great thing about cake? It really doesn’t matter how beautiful it is, as long as it’s delish!
What kind of flowers did you make? One of our daughters is getting married in April. I would like to figure out some pretty ones for the reception.
These look like so much fun! I will have to get one of the kits too!
Kerri, they really are fun. I was lucky enough to be one of 40 bloggers that received a huge kit from Wilton. Any of the items can be purchased in their online store at http://www.wilton.com/store/site/department.cfm?dc=21&killnav=1

Oh my gosh, those are totally adorable! I’m in love with the princess pops!
Thanks! My all-princess, all-the-time nine-year-old and two granddaughters loved them, too. I also realized that the pix are so durable, the girls pulled them out to eat the pop and I was able to wash them and use them, again. An unexpected benefit of those cute pops pix.
I know! I love the these pix for that reason too. I got some for cupcakes at Halloween and it was by far one of my very favorite products because they are cheap and reusable.

Wishing you lots of luck in the contest!
Okay, the lions are cute but the princesses with their sparkley sugar skirts totally take the cake! SO darn cute. I’m generally not a cake pop fan but those princesses may just inspire me to brew some up for daughter’s next birthday. Awesome job mama!
Thanks you! Princess birthday parties are definitely great fun.
