When it comes to school supplies, in 2011, Back-to-School means a lot more than just paper, crayons and pencils. Technology is a HUGE part of our childrens’ lives AND educations. Whether they attend public or private school or are homeschooled, our kids work with computers, the Internet and related technology on a daily basis. As parents, knowing which equipment they need, has value and is reliable, can sometimes be a challenge.
I wouldn’t call myself a techie, by any stretch of the imagination, but let’s just say our family has been using home computers since before there was a Windows. 
Our two oldest daughters did elementary school on a green screen monitor and in MS-DOS. In first grade our second daughter was typing game codes out in BASIC, to install them, before she could play. She even wrote a few programs in that ancient language.

I upload, download, install software and troubleshoot basic computer problems (and for tough ones I have built-in personal tech support from two learned brothers-in-law!). I have no problems opening up and upgrading computers, installing memory, new CD drives or hard drives and I can install most peripherals without much difficulty. I have a rough idea of what internal components I want when I’m looking for a new computer and I taught myself HTML back in 1997, so I could build a curriculum business website. I can FTP files where I want them to go and after some training from my kids, I Facebook and Twitter with the best of them. I connected and secured our home network for our PC, 4 laptops, 2 game systems and wireless printer. I don’t tell you all these things to boast, but to establish a modicum of credibility when it comes to discussing a topic that we haven’t covered in much depth, here at Busy-at-Home, home computing. Now, that I have established, that, I want you to understand that I know very little about the technical side of making an internet connection faster. I just know that I expect it.
What I do know, with absolute certainty, is that when it comes to Internet speed and reliability, I’m sort of a snob. I don’t know how to make it happen, but I certainly expect my ISP and equipment to deliver it. lol With all the jobs I do in our home, plus homeschooling and blogging, plus the activities I and our kids are involved in outside of home, I have no patience with slow or unreliable Internet connections. Whether I am uploading pictures to edit for the blog or the kids are doing research for a school project or even just streaming some video, I need it to work and I need it quick. We could never go back, now that we have had cable internet for so many years. There is simply no comparison in the speeds between it and even the best dial-ups. However, no matter how fast your cable ISP can feed the connection TO your equipment, the equipment you run it through can definitely make a huge difference in the speed you actually experience as you are computing. So, one, you need a quality, high-speed modem and two, if you are like our family, running a huge network of computers, peripherals, game systems, iPads and fancy phones, you need a fabulous router. You need a router that disseminates that signal to each and every device with speed and reliability.

A faster connection would mean stay at home Parent’s like me could get all the freebies, chat with friends and surf the web quicker. Let’s see, we have my main computer, hubby’s laptop, the kids (very old) computer, my ipad 2 and 2 smartphones as well as the wii that all share wifi. When anyone comes over, they also connect to my wifi. With a family of 6 and me being a blogger, someone is ALWAYS on the computer. A faster connection would be extremely helpful!

This is insane but we have over a dozen devices in our home network….desk top pc’s, laptops, tablet pc, blueray player, game systems and printers. We no longer use our network for school but we do stream movies and tv shows, play games, connect to work from home and spend a lot of time visiting blogs, facebook, etc. I must be related to you…I don’t deal well with slow and unreliable internet connections either!

Our current router is not able to handle our current load — or so it seems — so this product sounds ideal! We have Hubby’s desktop, my laptop, my ipad, my smart phone, his smart phone for work, his smart phone for “home” … and probably a few more I’m forgetting! I’m definitely the heaviest user, with my blogging and social media addiction, but hubby has been known to be glued to his screen for hours at a time…. My girls occasionally use my computer for school, also.

We have both of our laptops and desktop PCs, my MacBook Pro, a laser printer, two blu-ray players, and our smart phones connected to our home network (which doubles for our work network since we both are in media studies and watch videos, TV, and movies for our jobs). Having a faster wireless connection would be a huge plus because we do a lot of streaming and downloading, often at the same time, which leads to competition for bandwidth and eventually frustration for both of us. It would be great to be more efficient and have better speeds and quality, especially for HD video. Thanks!

Although my home network is small (my computer, my cell phone, and my Roku device), it’s become an integral part of my life. I use my computer to connect with the word, play games, connect with work, enter contests and giveaways, and be a database for everything. The wireless saves me money on the data plan on my cell phone since most data usage is free when using a wireless connection. And streaming movies and TV shows on my Roku keeps me entertained when I exercise and when I want to relax. So, I have grown dependent on my wireless network. We have 3 computers in our home network and it seems like we are always on some type of holding pattern if we are all online at once, especially if some one is downloading a huge file. Our network is for 3 desktops, 3 laptops, and one netbook. Not all of these are in use at one time. These various machines are used for work, school, and volunter webmaster duties as well as ‘playing’ on the web. A faster network would enhance all of these activities.

Our home network supports two and sometimes three laptops, a server, a desktop computer, a Kindle, a Nook color, three smartphones and probably something else I’m forgetting. I use the network for blogging, games and just general surfing and connectivity. A faster connection would be a god-send because faster is always better!

We have 2 computers and 5 other devices that require a wifi connection. We use some of these for gaming and others for social media sites.
A faster connection would be awesome! You can tell when more than 3 people are using the network as it slows down. I could multitask even faster!

We have four computers at home. One for the “grown-ups” and one for each child. The children do school work with theirs, plus the usual email and social networking. My husband and I check work email at home.
We also have a PS3 which is used for games, DVD’s and Netflix. I imagine our network is out of date and sometimes it seems like things take forever. I would love to have a little more speed.
We have three computers on our home network. Use for work, school (has yet to start), email, recipes, online calendar, social networks, streaming tv and movies, news and a few games.
It has almost become impossible to watch even a youtube video as the computer freezes during the streaming the audio continues but the video does not. Very frustrating – a new router would help this issues.

We have two desktops, a laptop, and multiple smart phones going Wi-Fi. We use our devices for all sorts of things, school, work, daily information, games, etc.. It can be difficult at times getting everyone time to do what they need to do and having a faster connection would absolutely alleviate some of our troubles. I just followed “Busy at Home” on twitter. I wonder how many moms like me are the home IT department and how many, like me, cringe when they hear, “Mom, the Internet’s slow again” bellowed from another room. The E4200 seems like just the kind of firepower all IT moms need in their network arsenal.
We have 2 laptops, 2 iPods and 3 desktop computers. Occaisionally, there are more in the house as I am techie who will fix computers for friends. Most of my computers are older. The have hi-speed network cards in them for transferring video and image files and the Gigabit Etherner ports would take advantage of the gigabits card in these odler computers for faster file transfer. My current router does not have Dual Band N capabilities,which is the bottle neck when transfering files from my laptop wirelessly. The Linksys E4200 would not only reduce the time required to transfer files from my laptop, but also provide a greater transmission range. I also like the USB storage port, but that is another story….
I also would expect to see an improvement when my family is surfing the net on their ipods.

How would a faster network connection help you? I have three kids under the age of 2.5. I don’t have time for our slow connection to load! Sometimes I get snippits during the day and when my connection is down or slow, I get so frustrated that I ususally have to give up and come back to it later. A faster connection could help me get much more done for blogging, emails, etc. Also to get photos to the nagging grandparents! lol

A faster connection would definitely help me because I often get lag in video games due to my old router supplied by our ISP. I’d love to have a real wireless connection that wouldn’t die on me all the time too.

I have one computer in my home network which is used both for leisure and some work.
We have 1 computer. Mainly for leisure. We play games a lot, do contests. I would say it would help us most in our gaming…
I Have 8 devices on my home network, 6 use wireless. 4 of them are for blogging, school, and work, and the rest are phones and 1 ps3. A faster connections would allow me to get stuff done at a faster rate, and get me better speeds on my ps3.
We run 1 netbook, 3 desktops, an XBOX 360, a Wii, 2 iPhones, and an iPod touch daily on our home network. So in other words – TOO MUCH! Lol … We also canceled our cable and run Netflix and Hulu only over our XBOX and another desktop computer we have connected to our TV. Fingers crossed!!

Three devices. Games, movies , photo archive and sweepstakes! Not for schoolwork (BOO! homework).
There are three computers and two smartphones that are used in my household on a wireless connection. My parents both use the computers for work at times, especially my dad. My brother is going into his senior year and is in an IT program. I take online college courses, blog, and do some work-at-home stuff online.
A better connection would significantly decrease the stress level in my house, haha. We had a decent router that pooped out on us and had to downgrade. Getting a good connection is not easy in this house, haha.

I have one desk top computer, 3 cell phones, 5 game systems and one lap top that uses the wireless internet. We use the computers for work, school, games, music and surfing the net for whatever we may need. The phones are used for looking up something quick if need be or playing games. The game systems the kids use to play against their friends or just someone on line so it’s not so boring playing the computer. It would help with everything running faster. games will be faster and it would be easier for the kids to play wirelessly. better range for the game systems and the cell phones.

We have 2 desktops, my daughter has a netbook (called the smash-top since she stepped on it UGH), youngest son uses an XBox online and daughter uses a PSP to connect. We SO could use this!! The XBox sucks the life out of our current wireless router… my poor desktop can’t compete.

There are 6 computers on my home network. I use the Internet for school and work. A better router would benefit me as I barely get a wireless signal in my room and we have a quite obsolete old router with bad range for our house. I also like “Cisco Linksys” on Facebook.
My family has 2 desktops and 3 laptops on our network! Not to mention all the smart phones! Haha
My network is primarily used by myself but I’m a student in a dorm and my wireless network ends up being shared by up to 15 others depending on where our study groups are
. A faster network would help us a lot with our studies AND our relaxing – everything from submission of papers online, to downloading and reading articles from libraries internationally, to watching a movie on Netflix!

My home network is very small, just 2 laptops, the roku box and our 3 smartphones. occasionally my ipod touch, but with our horrible netgear router, we lose connection alot. With a better connection I might actually be able to pay the bills while our roomate applies for jobs in the other room and my husband is able to watch Grey`s Anatomy on the roku box, without yelling…without seeing who can log on the fastest!
We serve an old dinasaur PC and a laptop, plus my husband brings work to do at home sometimes on his work laptop. He also has a smart phone. 2 kids have their itouches but they arent allowed to go online with them when were are using computer, as they “knock” connection out for some reason.

My name is Chris we have a computer, 2 laptops, and 2 ipod touch’s. Currently we have big issues with our router because it is “poisoned” and have trouble accessing the internet. It works when it wants to. I would greatly appreciate this router because i need it for college and my sister needs it for her senior year in high school. We use the internet for social activites as well. With this router i will be able to finish my homework alot faster since it will have a better internet connection. I have just moved into a new apartment with my boyfriend and we have 2 laptops. I am a sophmore and he is a freshman in college and school will be starting soon.. We also own a printing , mailing company that is suffering because we are unable to work on customer requests at the same time. If we had a router, we would be able to get more work done AND ace our Fall and Spring classes.

We currently have five devices in our home network. I have two devices. My wife has one laptop and our daughter has a mini netbook. Our daughter uses the netbook primarily for school and surfing in general. I use one laptop for work and my Ipad2 for surfing in general. My wife’s laptop is used for some Zynga games on Facebook and general social networking. Our current provider is of moderate speed. Improving our connection speed in any way would increase everyone’s enjoyment of the games and programs that they use. Personally, for me, the work stuff would load and process a little faster leaving me more time to do the things that I consider to be fun.

We have over eleven items on our home network, including smart phones, desktop pc’s, a home network server, a netbook, a notebook, and a gaming console. We use the network for everything, but mostly school and gaming. The current router we use needs to be reset at least once per day sometimes more depending on wireless usage. Having a new router would help when only one person is having difficulties but needs to boot everybody in order to reset the router.

You see, there’s 2 desktop computers here and a laptop. And we can’t use all of them at the same because our network connection is soooo slow. It’s hard, I mean, the kids have to use the computer to do homeworks, I need to use it too to contact my business clients, and sometimes there’s grandpa and grandmama needing to call our relatives through magicjack that needs the use of the computers too. hello, i have 3 desktop custom built computers in my house, and 3 laptops (they are not all mine of course) We use a level-one wireless router currently, it is rather old and only supports speeds up to 54mbps.
3 of the desktop computers are used for gaming mostly or watching netflix, only one laptop can play 3d games, the other 2 are small netbooks but are good for surfing the internet, watching youtube, that sort of thing.

How many computers and devices are there in your home network? Hello! My wife and two daughters and myself have a total of tow computers on a Internet connection. My wife is a second grade teacher and she uses our net connection every day for her work. I also use the net as I am currently trying to find a new job! My two daughters are in 4th grade and 1st grade; the fourth grader has a lot of Internet dependent work. And the first grader is just starting to get into the Internet and computer in general. A faster net connection would help us immeasurably as we also have a net-book with WiFi, but we are unable to use this feature because we can’t afford to buy a wireless router right now. So, needless to say we could definitely use this router!
4 workstations and 1 laptop on the network. Two of the workstations are hard wired but the ones in each of the kids rooms are using a usb wireless adapter. The issue is that because it’s an old house the wireless router I have doesn’t have a strong enough signal to go through the walls to their rooms. This would solve that problem. Thanks.

I have 2 computers networked in my home. There’s also an xbox 360 on the same router plus an iPad. We mostly use our computers for fun (games, web surfing, & streaming). A faster router would certainly improve all those uses (especially streaming video on the iPad).

Cisco Linksys Home products are solid… I’ve been using them for years with nothing but ease!

I use my home network for work, the kids use it for school, I use it to surf the web, everyone uses it for Netflix and Tivo, streaming youtube and various tv shows, and everyone uses it for the gaming systems. A faster network would mean we could watch a movies while someone else is using a bandwith intensive site/system and not have everything freezing up to buffer constantly!

We currently have 2 notebook computers & an iPhone that are on the home network. I use the internet quite often for school & work. My husband also uses it for work. A faster connection would definitely cure the headache of having to wait, wait, wait.

We have a total of 1 desktop, 1 laptop, and 2 iPhones We use our computers for everything (work and play) all day. A faster connection would be great.
I have one lap top computer in my home that I use for games, work and personal purposes. A router would make my life easier so that I can use my lap top away from my work station.
We have a desktop and 4 netbooks. Faster for me means looking up information quicker and on with my life. For my son, he would be able to also access his stuff quicker.

There are two computers on our network and we use it to work.
I think it’s 10, computers, printers, scanner, webcam, etc. I use them all at home and when company comes (the “kids” visit), they can use their laptops connected to the ‘net from my router (which needs to be replaced, it’s getting tired)

I live in a fraternity house so there is a minimum of 15 devices connected to our network at one time. We all use these devices for leisure, but mainly for getting school work done. To be connected to a faster network would mean that we could get our work done faster and spend more time working towards receiving a better education.

There are two in my home network. I use for both home(games etc) and work projects. A faster connection would mean I can research stuff faster and get my work done quicker.
We have three desktops and two laptops. I use my laptop for my writing, sometimes work, and whatever comes up. My desktop is for everyday use, including work and writing class pieces.
Faster is always better when it comes to a router and connections, unless I’m supposed to be doing my writing. Hee.

We have a desktop and an iPad…plus our video game systems too. By this Xmas, we will have more…another iPad, for my son and a netbook for my other son. We need a new router..ours does not do well for more than 1 device. We use it for school…I am going back to college, my kids play games and the hubby loves his fantasy sports online.

We have two Desktop Computers, an iPod and two phones. This router could help because our main computer is really slow. The router we bought from the Super Center is a piece of junk. We have had to buy a router every six months. The computer is slow, it freezes up and it is very frustrating.
