UPDATE: It is with great sadness that I can no longer endorse the company producing and marketing the NuWave PIC. I LOVE, seriously LOVE the product, but the manner in which they charge for shipping is, in my opinion, not ethical. The product is worth far more than the $99 being charged for it; and it would seem more honest to me to simply charge what the product is actually worth, rather than saying it is only $99 and then charging inflated prices for the shipping and handling. Should those practices ever change, Busy-at-Home would be glad, once again, to endorse not only a great product, but the company who produces it. Thank you for understanding.
I’m having such a blast using my NuWave Precision Induction Cooktop (PIC) from Hearthware! I’ve been using an induction range, in my kitchen, for more than five years and would be hard-pressed to ever go back to a conventional electric cook stove; but I desperately needed an additional “big burner” on my range. The NuWave PIC is the solution I was looking for and it’s even inspired me to try some recipes I’ve never cooked before! I love that I can have my big 12″ cast iron skillet busy on the range and still have a huge pot cooking away on one of my two PIC’s! I’ll never run out of burners while making a big family dinner and I have the perfect way to keep covered dishes warm at potlucks. With all the ways I’ve learned to use them, I have a hard time understanding how I managed before I had them. I’m even more excited that a Busy-at-Home reader is going to have the chance to add a PIC to their own kitchen appliances! Be sure to enter this extraordinarily generous giveaway, from Hearthware, at the end of this post!

I have two of these fabulous “big burners” in my kitchen, now and I love how they’ve expanded my kitchen!
As I explained in my last post about this fantastic kitchen tool, induction cooking requires the use of stainless steel or cast iron cookware. “Induction cooking uses an electromagnet to generate heat in the cooking vessel, not in the cooktop, itself. Under the glass of the cooktop there is a copper coil, that produces a gentle electromagnetic field when electricity passes through it. This starts the molecules of your pan vibrating, which creates heat. The pan is heating up, not the cook top. Totally cool, right? Your cookware needs to be stainless steel or cast iron (magnetic) in order for the range to work. I can boil a sauce pot of water in about 90 seconds on my stovetop. The glass top doesn’t heat up (though it DOES get warm under the pot, where heat from the pot is transferred to the cook top), because all the energy goes directly into the cookware. It’s a much more even and consistent way of cooking and I don’t have any of the issues that come with typical glass top stoves. For instance, spills don’t bake on. Sprinkling sugar onto most hot glass-tops, results in a lifelong, baked on crunch or even small pits burned in. Induction cook tops don’t have enough heat to melt the sugar, mush less burn it on. Love, love, love that! My grandbabies have stood on their tippy-toes and reached over the top edge of my induction range and unless they directly touched the pot, I didn’t have to worry about a burn. The moment that truly sold me was a demonstration where a skillet had been cut in half and then placed on the range. The rep cracked an egg, half onto the skillet, and half onto the “burner” of the cooktop. In a mere moment, the side of the egg sitting in the skillet was cooked through, while the half sitting on the burner was as raw as the moment he had placed it there. Amazing!”
So, look at what I’ve been making, since my first experiment with that delicious Fiesta Bake, I shared with you in February.

This delicious Fiesta Bake was the first recipe I cooked with the PIC.
I tested the NuWave Cast Iron Grill Pan on the PIC and we enjoyed delicious steaks, beautifully seared and grilled, right in my kitchen, on a cold winter night. Why does food always seem to taste better when it’s sporting those gorgeous grill marks? I can’t wait to try it out on some veggies!

The NuWave Cast Iron Grill Pan is a perfect accessory for the PIC. It heats evenly across the entire surface and has an easy-to-empty grease collection tray. Plus the “Sear” setting on the PIC, allows me to quickly seal the juices into whatever meat we’re having.

I got a great deal on flat iron steaks, marinated them, and seared in their delicious flavor with the cast iron grill pan on my NuWave Precision Induction Cooktop.

The NuWave round cast iron griddle, on my second PIC, allowed me to sear and cook more steaks for our big crew, at the same time as I had the grill pan going. It did a fabulous job! I’m guessing, it would make some pretty amazing pancakes, too! ![]()

This was a delicious and quick to prepare supper that was easy with the NuWave PIC!
The most interesting and exciting recipe, that I’ve tried since having the PICs in my kitchen is Homemade Yogurt. As a fan of Pinterest, I have certainly pinned several recipes, most of which involved a quart jar on a heating pad, overnight. I’ve never been brave enough to try. Imagine how excited I was to find that I could use the induction cook tops to make homemade yogurt in just a few hours. No preservatives, guar gum, or other unidentifiable ingredients — just whole milk and yogurt starter. I’ve been told that I can use a Tablespoon of yogurt made with the live lactic bacteria, but it is not available locally, and for now, I found yogurt starter on Amazon and the cost was only 71¢ for each packet, which makes a full quart of yogurt! The only other ingredient I needed was a quart of milk. You won’t come close to buying yogurt at the local grocery store for that great price! Also, for health reasons, we drink and use only whole milk in our family. It is very difficult to purchase yogurt, in our three local stores, that is made with whole milk. Now, I don’t have to worry about it. I’m so excited that this turned out, well, and my husband and kids actually like it, ALOT! The recipe for this easy breakfast/snack was one of over 70 recipes in the cookbook that I received with my NuWave PIC. I’m looking forward to trying so many more. Here’s how I made our yogurt.
In less than seven hours, you can make wholesome, delicious yogurt at home for a fraction of the store-bought price!

I received the NuWave Cast Iron Grill Pan and Griddle to test and review them in my own kitchen, using my NuWave PIC. No monetary compensation was received and a positive review was not required. As with all Busy-at-Home reviews, the views and opinions expressed are wholly my own and based on my personal experience with the products.
I learned that the NuWave PIC is more eco friendly than either gas or normal electric burners. since you know exactly how hot it is.
That’s right, Ellen! Plus, it cooks so much more quickly, (which saves on energy use), than conventional cook tops without the burning dangers. It’s extraordinary!
I love the fact that less chance of bad burns can occur seeing as i have very curious grandson
For $300??!!!…no one has bothered to mention all the “hidden” costs which make this “$99 buy one, get one free” deal actually OVER $300!!!! (Just try to buy the deal in one transaction where the extra fees aren’t as easily hidden or overlooked.)
The hidden charges come from the “Just Pay S & H” which is $29.95 for the first cooktop, $39.95 for the “second — free” cooktop; and $69.95 for each of the “free” pan orders.
For the real cost of $300, the consumer must decide the value of this product. In my opinion, there are better options at that price point. Don’t be ripped off by the misleading nature of this advertising!! The product may be a good one, but I will not deal with a company that has such business practices.
I agree, Lynde. It is why we no longer work with them at Busy-at-Home. It is a real shame, because the product is phenomenal! As soon as the shipping costs were brought to our attention we discontinued working with them. It was a HUGE disappointment.
I used to have a magnetic induction cooktop. It was fantastic. This would be a good addition to my kitchen. I especially like the grill attachment.
George, I know what you mean. I LOVE the induction cooktop. That grill pan was just gravy! We love it!

Wow! You need to check out some of their specials, Linda! You can definitely do better than that. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter. Yesterday, they ran a buy one, get one free special. If you’re following, you’ll know when the deals come up!
i found out that to. thought you get free gifts. if they are free then they shouldn;t charge for them. took a long time to get my free one. can’t finf cookware to use on it.
Gail, all my cookware is castiron or stainless steel, so I don’t have problems with cookware. I know Walmart carries several brands of stainless steel. You can also get them on Amazon. If you aren’t sure, carry a small magnet with you to the store. If the magnet sticks to the pan, it will work on an induction cook top. Hope that helps.

I like that you can use it as a deep fryer as well.
I learned that food never burns or sticks.
The possilbe uses are endless! And it’s a big time saver and well as energy saver!
I learned that snce induction technology is based on magnetic principles, the cookware used with it must have a ferrous (iron-based, magnetic) bottom. Some types of cookware are made of naturally magnetic metals (such as pure iron), while others are rendered magnetic by “sandwiching” a thin layer of a ferrous metal in the base.
I just bough a whole set of hard anodised cookware from a TV show I love. I just tested for the magnet but it didn’t work on my pans. Is that the only test for pans to use on this because I just love the idea but sure can’t buy new cookware again.?
Sandy, it is. If your pans aren’t magnetic, they won’t heat up, as the heat is generated with an electromagnetic element.
You can buy a topper for it which allows the heat transfer to go from the “pad” to the pan. It is not as efficent—but it beats throwing out new pans.
i learned that food never burns or sticks

I learned that induction cooks faster and is one of the safest and most efficient methods of cooking.
Today I learned that the there are three easy to see if your own cookware will work on the NuWave Precision Induction Cooktop:
1) An induction symbol will be printed on the bottom of the cookware.
2) Place a small amount of water in a pot or pan. If induction compatible, water will start to boil.
3) A magnet is typically a great indicator. If it sticks to the bottom of the cookware, this typically means the pot or pan is induction ready. However there are instances where the cookware’s magnetic properties may not be strong enough for the pot to work efficiently.
That’s easy enough to figure out!

Its cool to the touch.
There are three simple ways to check if your existing cookware or future cookware purchases are designed for use with the NuWave Precision Induction Cooktop:
1) An induction symbol will be printed on the bottom of the cookware.
2) Place a small amount of water in a pot or pan. If induction compatible, water will start to boil.
3) A magnet is typically a great indicator. If it sticks to the bottom of the cookware, this typically means the pot or pan is induction ready. However there are instances where the cookware’s magnetic properties may not be strong enough for the pot to work efficiently
Foods will never burn, it’s cool tot he touch, and it’s so versatile. You can use this to steam, grill, etc.

It uses up 90% less energy than a regular gas or electric stove. Wow! I really want one
I learned that induction technology warms the pan, but the PIC remains cool.
They suggest that you take the ice cube challenge!
Love how there are no flames so you don’t have to worry about poisoning in the air if you leave the gas stove on (like the stove I currently have)!
What’s the lowest temperature setting? I would like something reliably steady to make cheese.
Kim, the lowest possible temperature setting is 100 degrees.
I’ve known a long time about the benefits of induction cooking, but the cooktops are so expensive! Single burner induction cookers have been coming down in price, but I learned so many bettter features are on the Nuwave, such as precise temperature control. I just ordered the BOGO so I’ll have 2, and the extra cookware that comes with it. You have to pay the extra S&H, but not a bad deal altogether. I did not order the grill pan or griddle since I already have something similar and it didn’t seem like such a good deal with the S&H added.
I really like that I can use this outdoors…will be using to cook things that my hubby hates stinking up the house, like bacon, cabbage, potstickers, etc. Although he LOVES eating the bacon!! I also like that I can set it on very low temps for melting cheese and chocolate, and sauces that usually require a double boiler – no more having my chocolate sieze up on me from getting steam in it!
Yeah, can’t wait to try this out!
Wendy, I’m so excited for you! I hope you enjoy it and get as much use out of them as I do from mine!
Also meant to note…did you all see it has programmable timed cooking? It just may replace my crock pot!!
I also cannot wait to use it for making candy and burnt sugar caramel…precise and even temperature is so crucial to success. So you guys that like to make fudge, caramel, candy, boiled frosting..this is for you!
I just received mine yesterday – I got the burner (the free one backordered), the stainless pan and steamer, along with the skillets. They also sent yogurt jars which I wasn’t expecting, so I’ll have to get some starter yogurt and milk and try it at least once.
I was first impressed by the weight of the cookware – I nearly passed on getting the “extras” due to the shipping cost, but it is well worth it. (though I didn’t order either cast iron piece) Both the stainless and the skillets have a nice heavy bottom and the lid fits the larger skillet and the pot.
Using the burner itself is really straigtforward, you can push the setting button (high, medium, low, simmer, sear, etc) or by temperature. The readout will always show what temperature the burner is at. It heated up very quickly.
I made philly cheesteak sandwiches last night and used the nuwave pic to first cook the peppers and onions, and then I cooked the minute steaks in a skillet. I used my own non-nonstick pan for that so I could chop up the meat as it cooked. Otherwise the stainless pan performed like others I own, and it looks very nice. Everything cleaned up beautifully and easily after using.
I will use this more throughout the week and will note any issues or raves. I’m really looking forward to trying out the skillets, because I have a really cheap ceramic coated pan that I’m not so happy with (it’s the one with a white coating) – I know just like non-stick that ceramic coatings vary. But first impressions are very promising!
That’s awesome, Wendy! Thanks for coming back to share your experience.
So many comments from so many people who apparently don’t even have the appliance, and are just repeating the information from Nuwave about it! Not a single comment, that I noticed, about experiences from actually using it, except by the author. Do you all work for the manufacturer? It would be nice to actually read something from real customers who have cooked with the device and used it for a period of time. It looks like a neat burner, if it actually works as advertised and is reliable over a period of time. I did appreciate the author’s instructions for making yogurt, but no one else actually mentioned using the burner or the “free” pans. I guess it will be a few more weeks before there are real customer reviews showing up and some customer videos on YouTube.
Hi Steve. The people commenting on this post were doing so to enter a giveaway and giving the information asked for, in the giveaway requirements, so that’s why their comments seem to be confusing you. As to the reviews, I am definitely REAL and have been using both my PICS for months, now. I didn’t mention the free pans, because I don’t have them, but have been using my cast iron and stainless steel cookware with great results. I actually do own the NuWave cast iron griddle and grill pans, which I DID review on this blog and use frequently. I’ve been cooking with an induction range in my kitchen for 4 years and the PICS are a great extension of that cooktop for all the cooking needs that come up in my busy kitchen. If you have questions, I would certainly be happy to answer from what I know in my personal experience with the product.
I would like to know how I can purchase the yogurt starter mix. I received the jars but no yogurt starter mix.
Hi Marilyn! I bought mine on Amazon. You can also use a Tablespoon of natural yogurt with live cultures.
Hello there! wanted to know can i use NuWave PIC for canning?
Hi Anna! You know, I’m not sure. Your canner would need to be stainless steel or cast iron, for sure. I think the highest temp it reaches is 425 degrees. For canning you would just need to achieve a rolling boil, in most cases, but you would need to speak to someone who is more experienced with canning. Thanks for your question and for stopping by. I would love if you could come back and post the answer if you get more concrete information.
Learned that this is the most economical, easy and clean way to cook almost everything!
Have you ever tried using this to deep fry foods?
Is it possible to use this to keep oil at a steady 360°F, for example?
M, I have not fried with it, but I did use it to make yogurt, holding the temperature steady for 8 hours.
I learned that if i spill anything on the pic . it won’t burn because the pic doesn’t get hot ,the pans do.
I have the NuWave oven and absolutely love it. It replaced my bulkly microwave on the kitchen counter.
Today saw the PIC info commercial and started to buy it (with 1 “free”) but backed off at the final ‘button” to seal the deal. $200 in shipping costs!! About $150 for actual products. Was going to give one as a gift for daughter and it seems like a great product. Glad to read the positive reviews from all but especially those who actually tried it. Still doing the math in my head. Would be about a $170 each for daughter gift and “me” gift in the end. May still buy soon but hoping to win one first!!
I learned that new wave has a temp indicator, perfect for candy making!
Please do not post previous name. Please post this name instead. Ty
I can use my enameled cast iron on it.
i agree with your update and sentiment. i too feel this company is wripping us off on the shipping. i did buy it and now i am searching for all the pots and pans i need to replace all those i can’t use with the nuwave. the griddle is a big issue. i won’t pay the 15.00 in shipping for a 29.00 item.
Elyse, I have a cast iron skillet and a set of affordable stainless steel pots and pans from Walmart, that I have always used for cooking. I’ve never had a problem using them on my PIC. If a magnet will stick to the pan, it will work on your PIC.
WOW!!!!! My stove blew up a month ago and I am a single mom of 2 boys 11 an 18. We can’t afford a new stove so I saw the infomercial and I was like WOW how in the heck does that do all that. So to win one would be awesome so I can get the kids off deep frying everything because that’s all we have. So even if I don’t win within time I am getting one And I won’t be paying 200-300 hundred. Well enjoy cooking !!!!!!!! thanks for the opportunity !! angi
It sure would be a blessing to have this cook top. I can’t stand up to the stove anymore due to a severly damaged foot. To be able to cook for my family & myself at the table would be so great, AND to be able to cook in diffrent ways- grill, fry, braise, boil, slow cook, any possible food item! I am also having to change my diet, and this product can help me tremendously in preparing food that will fit into those new perameters easily. What a wonderful new tool.
