Are you a scrapbooker extraordinaire? I want to be just like you when I grow up, and get organized, and sort out the 20 years of photos stored in envelopes in cardboard boxes, and print 6 years of photos stored on disks and websites, and after I buy some archival glue and scrapbook paper, and get some of those nifty corner trimmers, and cute embellishments andâŠÂ Ă okay, letâs face it. I can never be like you. But, I really, really want to and I just discovered today, a great place in our area where I can learn from the best and at the same time, support an incredibly important organization – the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
A strong family history of diabetes on both my husband’s and my own side of the family places our children at particularly high risk for this disease and we have both experienced its ravages in members of our families.Â
My cousin, Becca, (isn’t she beautiful?) lives with diabetes every day of her life. Eleven years ago, yesterday, we lost her brother, my cousin, Randy, to diabetes. What I love about Becca is the way she lives her life doing the things that will make a difference, instead of focusing on the daily suffering and drudgery of her illness, not because she doesn’t have drudgery or suffering, but because she knows that God will use all of it. You won’t hear about those hard days when you talk to her, because she is always focused on something more, something greater than herself, something that gives her joy instead of sorrow. She has made a conscious choice to impact people and the world, in spite of diabetes, and she is trusting the Lord for her next step, whether he heals her or simply uses her illness to encourage and reflect Himself on others .
Becca has organized an exciting event (it’s actually the fifth annual!) that combines her passions for scrapbooking and JDRF. This is an action-packed, fun-filled, all-day (yup, 12 glorious hours) event. You won’t believe everything that will be happening. Even better, all proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research foundation.
