We had a BLAST testing the Plasma Car for this review! It’s a perfect gift idea for an entire family. Young and old, small and large have zipped around our house and neighborhood on this unique ride-on toy! (If you are reading from the feed, be sure you click through, so you can watch this fun video.)
I discovered Plasma Cars, last Christmas, as I surfed the web for unique gift ideas. They’re made by PlaSmart, a really cool company that specializes in entertaining and educational toys. I love that all the ideas they come up with are simple and require brain or muscle power, not batteries and tons of technology! So, when I got the opportunity to review and giveaway a Plasma Car, for our anniversary celebration, I was thrilled.

These are the only parts needed to assemble a fun, durable ride-on toy that will give your family hours of fun!...
.

Finished car from the side. I get such a kick out of the "feet" grippers! (Sorry the lighting is so off in these pictures. That west sun was just at the wrong angle.) I also love the space-age aerodynamic shape! It's just fun and honestly, pretty comfortable!
When the box arrived, we pulled out the handful of parts and had it assembled in under five minutes. It was simple to do and the instructions were clear and easy to understand. I was surprised at how sturdy it is, even though it’s all plastic — even the wheels. We haven’t limited access to the fun toy, for anyone, meaning even adults commonly make the loop through the parlor, kitchen, dining room and foyer of our house, testing out the Plasma car fun, without a bit of difficulty. Seriously, I’ve buzzed around on it myself. It’s strong and durable. There’s just something infectiously addicting about having the power to propel yourself without pushing, pulling or pedaling. The fact that you can make a 360° turn on a dime and go backwards as easily as forward, doesn’t hurt either. I will say that you definitely need a lot more arm muscle to go UP a hill than you did going down it! lol But, seriously, that’s a good thing and a healthy, fun form of exercise.

She was pretty excited and she was telling everyone to move out of her way!

This little guy loves cars, any car, and he has established personal ownership of this one, in his mind. Once he got on it, his sisters were only allowed to be passengers from them on. He does grudgingly share, now, that the new has worn off a little, but that first day was rough!
So, what makes it go? It’s as simple as wiggling that steering wheel back and forth. (Take a look at the video, again, and you’ll see what I mean.) Inertia, centrifugal force and friction are harnessed in those simple actions to propel the car forward and keep it going. It’s designed for smooth, flat surfaces, so our hardwood, vinyl and tile floors are perfect (Please note that Pla-Smart doesn’t recommend using the Plasma Car on hardwood, because there is always a chance it could scratch your floor. We have found that keeping the wheels wiped off, after it has been outside has been very effective at preventing this, but I will be honest and say that any of you who know me, know I want my home to be a welcoming place, where we live and have fun. I want to be a good steward of what I have, but scratches are going to happen. Just sayin’. A warm, welcoming fun place to be is more important for our family. The great news is that Pla-Smart has developed polyurethane wheels that should be available sometime in February and those will be a safer option for playing on hardwood floors.), even if the weather is nasty outside. There are so many positive features to this simple toy, not the least of which is working on some arm and upper body strength if you are working your way up a sloped surface. I could definitely see us adding at least one more to our “toy box”, simply because everyone wants in on the fun. Plus, think of the races!!! I’m picturing some interesting relays for our Jr. High Youth Group!
As a matter of fact, even the girls in my Freshman Bible Study group have to give it a whirl, each time they’re here.

Bible Study is over, but the race is ON for these freshman students!
…

Chauffeuring his sister through the house. "See, this is how you steer AND how you make it go!"
With Christmas, just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to check out the Plasma Car website and find a retailer in your area or if you’re an online shopper, like me, Amazon offers them at a great price! Even better news?!!?!! Pla-Smart is generously sponsoring a giveaway to celebrate our two-year blogiversary, so one lucky Busy-at-Home reader will be able to enjoy this fun for free!

The Blogiversary celebration continues with a delicious recipe for a quick and easy supper and a generous giveaway from Farmhouse Foods! I recently received a sampler pack of 10 different varieties of Farmhouse Foods side dishes, five pasta and five rice. I was particularly excited to give them a try, since my husband has a severe sensitivity to MSG. They have no artificial preservatives or ingredients and no MSG. They are fast and easy to prepare and would be excellent on those “need dinner in a hurry” nights. While they were all tasty, without a doubt, the rice dishes were our favorite and I can’t wait to share the delicious recipe for Stuffed Peppers that I created to use a couple of them in.

Yummy Farmhouse Foods 10 Box Gift Pack we reviewed and will be won by a Busy-at-Home reader!

I used the Long Grain and Wild Rice and the Brown Rice & Wild Rice varieties in these deliciously simple Stuffed Bell Peppers. We served them with steamed spaghetti squash and watermelon. DELISH!
Delicious, savory and simple! You could make this recipe with any rice, but the Farmhouse Foods varieties were excellent in it!

You’ve probably seen the TV commercials, just like me. Proactiv has been around for years, now, and testimonials from faces we all recognize make it clear that the results can be pretty amazing. While my issues have never been severe, it seems like flareups always manage to happen at the most inconvenient times and products I used, before menopause, are not as effective as they once were. So, when I received a chance to try the new formula Proactiv, I was anxious to see if it could solve my dilemma.

Proactiv has always used high quality prescription grade Benzoyl Peroxide to give the knockout punch to bacteria that causes acne. In the new formula, the particle size of this pharmaceutical quality ingredient has been made even smaller, into BPO Micro-Crystals. The result is that Proactiv is more gentle for skin, fast to penetrate pores and just as effective at keeping skin clear.
The three-step system is easy to use. Once in the morning and once at night is all that’s needed to achieve a clearer complexion. I like that rather than working to treat acne after the fact, Proactiv is designed to get your skin into healthy shape and keep it that way, stopping breakouts before they start. The excess oils and skin cells that can clog any of the thousands of pores on the face are washed away instead of being deposited to grow bacteria and pores are penetrated on a regular basis with the best bacteria defense possible – the powerful benzoyl peroxide micro crystals. So, rather than trying to clear an unexpected flare up, skin is just kept in a state of good health, so flare ups can be more easily avoided.
Another appealing feature, new to Proactiv, is their 365 Program. It’s a 365/24/7 care and support system for Proactiv users. That means any time of the day or night, any day of the year, doctor-trained skin care advisors are available to answer questions and help with your use of the system by toll-free phone, email or online chat. You can even have an online consultation with Drs. Rodan and/or Fields, the Proactiv creators. With the multitude of products available from Proactiv, a system and regimen that is perfect for your specific skin and needs can be developed through these consultations with experts and they can walk you through any concerns you may have as you learn the routine. I used the 365 system to ask a few questions online. The response I had from Jennifer, the consultant who answered my online request, was immediate. I hit the orange button to do an online consult and the chat box opened instantly — no waiting. I had several questions about the best products for my skin-type and minimal, but annoying breakout problems. I also had questions about using the program on peri-menopausal skin. Jennifer didn’t miss a beat. She had obviously been well trained and provided me with all the information I needed.
I’ve liked using the Proactiv system. I’ve only been at it for about two weeks, so I wouldn’t say I’m where I want to be, yet, but what I DO like is that I can tell my skin is fresher. I think more of the old skin cells are being sloughed away than with my previous products. I’ve definitely not experienced a major breakout since starting the system and the problem areas I already had are beginning to clear. I also like that it is not drying or harsh on my skin. I haven’t experienced any uncomfortable dryness, redness or itching that I know from experience, can be part of using other name brand products. I wasn’t sure that Proactiv would be an appropriate choice for my menopausal skin and the changes that go along with this stage of life. I’m happy to report that it HAS been effective for me and I look forward to continuing the system.
Visit their website to learn more about Proactiv and see which products might work best for your skincare needs.
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Proactiv and received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Are you that recordkeeper extraordinaire that writes on the back of all your photos, as soon as they’re printed, creates gorgeous photo albums for each child and has family albums for every year since you’ve been married? (I’m harboring ungracious thoughts about you, right now.
) Or do you have envelopes and boxes of snapshots in the garage and in the attic and in the closet and under the bed and well, you get the picture — that cover multiple years in your family’s history — all mixed together — and lots of scrapbooking kits and supplies that are still in their packaging, though you had good intentions of using them?
And now that you have a digital camera, do you faithfully print out all the good photos, delete the bad ones and do all that stuff I talked about in the first sentence (Okay, now you’re making me cry.) or are all your pictures, good and bad, stored in folders on your hard drive, not being enjoyed by anyone and using up tons of space that makes your computer slow and wastes space? Yeah…so…I have some photo issues.

My Memories Digital Photo Album software has given me new hope for our family’s photo history. When I was approached last week, to review it, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect; since we were about to make our cross-country (well, cross-four states) trek on a family vacation to Ohio. This could be REALLY good! I accepted the review opportunity with renewed faith that at least one family event would be recorded for posterity and then we left on our vacation. While we were gone, I took tons of video and I snapped hundreds of photos. Once we returned, I resolved to get right to the project at hand and test out the My Memories software. I absolutely love it! THIS I can do!

The cover for our vacation album.
What’s so special about this digital photo album software? Well, lets make a list:
In the interest of loading time, I am including a link to the User’s Guide, which is loaded with screen shots, and can show how simple this program is to use. You won’t believe how quickly you will be able to create your own gorgeous photo albums.
..
EVERYBODY WINS!!! Not only is My Memories sponsoring a giveaway for the Digital Photo Album Suite that I reviewed, they are also providing an exclusive Busy-at-Home promo code for ALL our readers to receive $10 off the software download, bringing the cost of the software to only $17.98, during their amazing 30% Off Sale. Using the code with your order will also get you an additional $10 coupon code off any kits or papers you want to add to your program! $10 off and $10 in free add-ons! That’s like everyone winning the giveaway! See why I’m excited? So definitely, enter the giveaway, below; but if you’re in a hurry like me, take advantage of these great savings and order your My Memories Digital Scrapbooking software download, now. Use the exclusive Busy-at-Home Coupon Code : STMMMS23221 and receive $10 off your software + a coupon code for $10 off your next purchase in the My Memories store! I used my $10 coupon to download some adorable cooking and recipe add-ons. My next project will be a Family Cookbook! Plus, I’ll be doing lots of albums of all our holiday celebrations. The timing of this great deal is perfect!

Well, our bags are unpacked and we’re settling back in after all the fun. Ohio was definitely a long drive. Have you ever taken a road trip that was 17-20 hours straight through, trapped in a vehicle with six exhausted people?
lol – Mmmmhmmm! We NEEDED a festival!
We arrived in Gallipolis, OH in the wee hours of the morning on Friday, checked into our rooms and crashed. It was past noon before any of us woke up! My husband is up at 4 am every morning, so this was a first for him and he was very freaked out! Apparently, we REALLY needed the sleep. Once everyone rallied, we were excited to see all the surprises in the gift basket Bob Evans had left at the motel for us.
Even though there was a Bob Evans Restaurant next door to the motel, we decided against breakfast. It was, after all, past lunch time and we could grab a little somethin’ somethin’ at the festival. (We had taken our maiden voyage, at a Bob Evans in Richmond, OH, for supper the night before). So, we ignored our grumbling tummies and bravely piled back into the van, this time headed for Rio Grande, where the 41st Bob Evans Farm Festival was being held. Fortunately, it was only about 25 minutes from the hotel and scenery was absolutely gorgeous! Being from the flatlands of Nebraska, we were definitely taken in by the rolling hills of Ohio (We were nearly to the West Virginia border.) and the beautiful fall colors of the wooded roadsides.
The first day, I took lots of pictures and on Saturday, it was mostly video. I’m going to split the trip into two posts for you — photos, today, and then a video for the next one. Rather than posting the 71 pictures that I whittled out of the nearly 500 I took, last weekend, I’ve created 20 odd photo album pages. Right click your mouse on any one of the pages and click on View Image, to see it a little bit larger. I hope you enjoy this little photo tour of our trip. We really enjoyed the 41st Bob Evans Farm Festival and I want to be sure you get a taste of the fun!

…

“Ravioli sounds good.” It was a casual remark, made in passing. What did it mean? David and I have been married for 26 years and never in that time has he asked for, nor have I offered to serve, ravioli. Just the thought of it brings back childhood memories of weeping and wailing and little canned globs of slimy goo in tomato sauce. How could this be happening? Well by the time I had collected myself with a snappy comeback involving nutrition, David was already downstairs watching the game. I never got to share my thoughts on the subject with him, but I assumed we could all just move on with life and forget it had ever happened.
Interestingly enough, over the course of the next few days, twinges of conscience and curiosity got the best of me and I started wondering if there might be a palatable way to provide my favorite guy with a plate of ravioli. Five years ago, I would have headed straight to my extensive cupboard of cookbooks, but the convenience of technology has wooed me and so I typed the link to my favorite online recipe site, Recipezaar. After a thorough search of the top-rated ravioli recipes I made my selection, Ravioli (Dough and Choice of 4 Fillings) and set off to erase my “globs of goo” terrors.
I post the original link for this delicious recipe because I want you to know where I started. I might as well come clean from the beginning. I’m a recipe alterer. And my measuring is usually something like, “It calls for x amount — give or take.” If I’m out of something or don’t like something I leave it out or substitute something else. Plus, I came from a large family. I also have a fairly good-sized one of my own and I have just never fine-tuned the ability to cook just 4 servings of anything. I desperately want to be one of those organized super-women who does Once-A-Month Cooking, but I simply don’t have the attention span to complete 30 meals in a single day. So, I often double or triple a recipe as I am preparing it for a meal. Then I have one to serve right away and one or two to put in the freezer. That’s what I did with the ravioli variation I want to share with you, today. And let me just preface the recipe by saying, “I’m not afraid of ravioli any more.” It was delicious! My only regret is that I forgot to snap a picture of the finished product, lovely and steaming on the plate. When I serve it next from my freezer reserves, I’ll try to remember to take a snapshot.
Dough:
Filling:
If making the ravioli dough by hand, the recipe instructs to sift the flour and salt together and place the mixture on a board, making a well in the center. Break eggs into the well and then beat the eggs slightly. Combine the eggs and flour, gradually adding enough water to make a stiff dough.
I prepared the dough using my Bosch mixer. (That’s a completely different post for another day, but suffice it to say that my Bosch is hands-down my favorite kitchen appliance.) I put all the dough ingredients in the mixing bowl (starting with only 1 ½ cups of water). I used my dough hook and mixed everything on medium, adding a few more teaspoons of water, until it had formed what is a very stiff, dense dough. While I allowed the noodle dough to rest for about 15 minutes, I prepared the filling.
I melted the butter in my cast iron skillet and added the ground beef, onions and garlic and cooked it until the meat was nicely browned. Next, I transferred the meat to a large mixing bowl and added the remaining ingredients for the filling, combining them thoroughly.
Constructing the Ravioli
Rolling the dough will be a challenge if you haven’t let it rest long enough for the gluten to relax so it will stretch easily. Remember I multiplied this recipe roughly 3 times the original, so this is a big batch of very dense dough. I quartered it to roll it out, keeping the unused quarters covered with a damp paper towel to prevent them from drying out. Roll it out on a floured surface until it is very thin (about 1/8″ to 1/16 ” thick).

The next step is to add the ravioli filling. I elected to use my cookie dough scoop, so that the filling amount would be uniform in each noodle. I scooped 24 onto this one piece of dough.

Roll out a second quarter of dough and try to roll it slightly larger than the first. You are going to want it to stretch over the little hills of filling. This is the part where the density and stiffness of the dough are a great help. It stretches easily without tearing. Ingenious!
Once your second quarter is rolled, take a pastry brush and lightly brush the surface of the first dough with a few drops of water. Be sure to go inbetween each mound of meat and around all the edges. Place the second rolled quarter over the top of this first one, gently pushing and stretching the dough down and around your filling so that they seal.

If you have a pretty, zig-zag edged pastry cutter, this is the time to use it. I used a knife and cut my ravioli into squares. I checked all the edges for a good seal and crimped them as I went with the tines of a fork. Place the completed ravioli on a floured board, or like me, on a floured cookie sheet and allow them to dry at least one hour before boiling.

If you have created a big batch, like me, you still have two quarters of dough waiting for you to prepare the next 24 ravioli. While the first batch is drying, it’s the perfect time to finish up. Repeat all the construction steps above.
Cooking and Serving your Ravioli
I boiled the dried ravioli in boiling salt water, with just a touch of olive oil added to keep them from sticking together. They cooked about 10-15 minutes until the dough was tender and then I used a large slotted spoon to gently remove them and put them on a serving plate. We served them with our favorite spaghetti sauce and a sprinkling of grated Italian cheeses. A fresh, green salad rounded out the delicious meal!
Well, I’m no little Italian grandma, but I think things went great for my first experience making homemade ravioli. I confess I am still disturbed that I don’t have a “finished product” picture for you, so I will have to make a quick plate tomorrow and snap one. That will be easy to do, since the extra, dried, but uncooked ravioli was flash-frozen in a single layer on cookie sheets and then transferred to a gallon zipper bag. I can remove just one or two, or enough for a whole family meal, boil them in a flash and have a delicious plate of pasta ready in the time it takes to heat the sauce.

I’ll never be afraid of ravioli again! Mangia!

I just learned how to make the world’s easiest and most delicious omelets and I used a product I would never have suspected could make the difference! I was, recently, given an opportunity to try Hungry Jack Premium Hash Brown Potatoes. They are phenomenal! They are dehydrated, so an entire pound of hashbrowns comes in one small carton. It hardly uses any shelf space in the pantry, does not require me to spend time peeling and shredding potatoes (meaning I can have them prepared in minutes!) and does not have to be frozen or refrigerated. What used to be a chore and a once in a while treat, is now a quick easy supper (or breakfast
) starter. I love this concept!

The Hungry Jack Gift Pack I received to review and the one a reader will win in this fun anniversary giveaway! It includes a non-stick skillet, apron, slotted spatula and three boxes of Hungry Jack Premium Hashbrowns!
Sadly, the skillet I received in the review package will not work on my induction range, which requires cast iron or stainless steel pots and pans to activate the electromagnet that creates heat. My daughter will get good use out of it, however, and for the purposes of this review, the hashbrowns are undoubtedly the star. I love this product! Look how I used them to create omelets for a yummy breakfast-for-dinner meal.

Do you know the way your child learns best? With five of our own, ours run the full spectrum of possibilities from the “I need to put my hands in it before I really GET it” learner, to our creative, artsy learners who write novels and create cartoon characters in the margins of their Math papers, to our “Please, Mom, just give me the textbook and my assignments” learners who need to do the job and check it off their list. This is the area where I feel that as homeschoolers we are truly blessed. Knowing those learning styles really helps tailor educational experiences to the best way our kids will absorb them. The problem is that there aren’t many curricula options that can accommodate them all and even fewer that celebrate them. The history unit studies from Diana Waring Presents can and do; and they’ve been a long-time favorite of mine.
…
I ♥ History. My kids don’t always share my passion, so being able to present information in a way that interests and sticks with them can sometimes be a challenge. That’s why Diana Waring Presents history unit studies are perfect for our family. I love that Diana understands that:
It isn’t “learning”, ONLY if it comes from between the covers of a textbook. As a matter of fact, some of the best learning often doesn’t. I want my kids to love books, all books, not just textbooks, as much as I do. But, my reality is that some of them simply will not. So my goal is for all of them to recognize excellent and reliable ones and to be able to utilize what they find in them. I also want them to be able to discern the reliability of the information presented from any source, even a textbook, based on what they already know to be true, the original sources for the information presented and the worldview bias of the author. I want them to be able to form opinions, understand truth and present reasoned arguments for what they know from testing the information themselves. History is more than memorizing names, dates and places and regurgitating the data onto a test page. It’s filled with interesting people, drama, intrigue and passion — rising and falling empires, reasons for the way we do things today, and so much more. It’s loaded with lessons and knowledge we can use to avoid past errors and it begins to lay out our personal place in history, our purpose, and the part we will play in the ongoing story. Making that information come alive and be exciting for kids should be one of the primary goals of all good history curriculum. Diana Waring Presents is exactly that.
This will be the first in a several-post series that introduces you to Diana and her three sets of history curriculum that can take your elementary through high school students from the beginning of time through the Korean War in a way that they, and probably you, have never experienced, before. She has divided the history of the world into three titles: “Ancient Civilizations and the Bible“, “Romans, Reformers and Revolutionaries“, and “World Empires, World Missions, & World Wars“. To complete all three titles, will take at least three years and you may want to stretch your schedule out over even more time, depending on how involved and interested your students get in each phase. The beauty of this unit study method is that once you have completed all three sets, you can begin again, studying through each period in history, utilizing different books and activities, going even more in-depth with your, now, older students, who will build on the foundation of what they already know. History will become “real” to your students (and to you) and you and they will become excited and care more deeply about your places in it.
Recognizing that students have different strengths and learning styles, each unit of a Diana Waring Presents history curricula is divided into four phases. Phase One introduces students to the subject-matter and will really appeal to your “people person” learners or as Diana calls them, the “Feelers”. They’ll be drawn into the dramatic and intriguing lives and events of history through reading, audio recordings and other resources. Open-ended questions will pepper the discussions during this phase, causing students to think, form ideas and opinions and making them anxious to investigate and research to find more information, so they will discover what THEY believe, not just parrot back what they’ve been told is true.

Each of the three history curriculum options, from Diana Waring Presents, comes with 3 sets of CD of audio recordings! They will rock your educational world and leave your students wanting more! Diana's incredibly infectious storytelling skill will draw you and the kids into the annals of history and inspire you to learn even more.
Your “Thinkers” or as I often call mine, your “Ducks in a Row” students, will be drawn in by Phase Two of each unit. This phase is designed for the child who “just wants the facts” and to be able to commit them to memory. This is achieved through working through a historical chronology — creating their own timelines, spending time with vocabulary drill, as well as research and report writing.
Hands-on learners (Sensors) will be enthusiastic about Phase Three of their history units. This phase focuses on projects a student can put his hands in – things she can physically DO, that reinforce the subject matter. Becoming mapmakers, your kids will explore the geography of a given time in history. They will study the architecture, art and music of the periods, make their own artistic creations and even cook! They’ll participate in Science experiments and connect periods in history with the inventions and discoveries common to them.

Cooking and musical options are only two of the suggested activity possibilities in phase three.
Creative expression will overflow your classroom and your “Intuitor” students will love Phase Four. Skits, puppetry, journalism and poetry, sculpting, drawing or painting, cartooning and illustrating, creative writing and more are all possible avenues of learning about the subject at hand in this final phase of each unit. Maybe you have a student who loves performing, listening to and composing music. This is the time when they will discover their passions in the pages of history and see a value to the subject, that they never understood before.
I love that by the end of every single unit, the concepts and material will have been presented in ways that will appeal to each learning style and insure that each of your students absorbs important historical truths in a way that helps them remember and makes it important to them. I also love that in studying history, we will also be doing Language Arts, Science, Art and more. That’s the beauty of unit studies — one theme encompassing multiple subjects. And lest you think that is the limit of the unique and valuable qualities of the unit study method, consider that you will be able to teach every grade-level in your homeschool using the same non-consumable texts and resources, adapting and choosing lessons and activities appropriate to the student’s age. Not only is it fabulous, it’s long-term frugal — another of my favorite things!
At the beginning of each unit, in the hardcover Teacher Guides, daily lesson plans for each of the four weeks (phases) of a unit are outlined. Each page from the student book is reproduced in the teacher guides and enhanced with background information, prayer, teaching and discussion suggestions. Key Concepts are listed and discussed, so the teacher has a well-rounded background in the material. Teacher’s Guides also include information on evaluating a student’s understanding of the subject matter and how to assess their involvement in the discussions and activities, as well. Each project idea and suggestion is defined and presented in a way that will be simple for you and your students to understand and implement. The Appendix at the back of the Teacher Guide also includes reproducible maps to use for each unit, as well. PLEASE NOTE: There are many suggestions and ideas included in each phase of a unit. This is not a textbook. You are not required to finish every project on every page. It was never intended that you would. Choose the one(s) that fit your students’ current needs and interests. One project completed with thought, skill and enthusiasm will do more for your child’s education, understanding of the topic and study skills than finishing an entire unit of workbook pages could ever do. Don’t fall into the quantity over quality trap.
Because this is not traditional textbook curriculum and it is important to Diana for you to understand exactly what the curriculum is, how it works and how you would use it, she has generously offered the complete Unit 3 from Ancient Civilizations and the Bible as a FREE sample for you. Just click the link to open the pdf file and save it to your computer. Look it over and see why I am so excited.
Ancient Civilizations and the Bible covers the time from Creation through the life of Christ. It contains nine units:
Each set also includes an Activity Book for Elementary Students. While they will be able to learn the same information, very young students may not be able to handle all the projects and activities included in the main Student Book. Diana has carefully designed a supplement that includes mazes, word searches, map, craft and art activities that may be more age-appropriate for younger students. It is designed for K-4th grade. In my opinion, the average third or fourth grader would definitely be able to use most of the activities in the main student book, though they may enjoy several of the activities in the Elementary manual. Plus, after completing all three sets of Diana Waring Presents history curriculum (“Ancient Civilizations and the Bible“, “Romans, Reformers and Revolutionaries“, and “World Empires, World Missions, & World Wars“), they will be ready to begin again and go more in depth with more challenging activities and projects in each set. You can download a FREE sample from the Ancient Civilizations and the Bible Elementary Activity Book, by clicking this link.
The courses also include a Test Kit that contains a final test over each unit in Ancient Civilizations and the Bible. Tests are a mix of essay, multiple choice, true false, matching and short answer questions and are reproducible, so you need only purchase one for your homeschool. As homeschooling parents, themselves, Bill and Diana Waring understand the importance of high-quality, non-consumable curricula products that can be used for all your students, over the years. I love that about them.

Each of the three course’s complete sets, also include 3 sets of CD’s: What in the World?, Digging Deeper and True Tales. For Ancient Civilizations that is 10 CD’s of AMAZING historical and archaeological information and yet another factor that further sets this amazing curriculum apart from any mainstream curriculum, secular or Christian. Having been able to hear Diana speak in person and even having had the opportunity to sit and visit with her, in the past, I can confirm from first hand knowledge that she is an amazing storyteller. Her enthusiasm and passion for history and discovery are incredibly infectious and students will be enveloped in her excitement as evidences and proofs, drama and intrigue are unfolded in the historical information she presents. History will literally “come alive” for you and your students, as you listen to this excellent audio collection.
Finally, none of the information presented is given in the, “This is history because I say it is”-fashion of most modern textbooks. There are lists and lists of resources and source documents given, that let you know where the information was derived from and your student will be expected to delve into that list to acquire their own information, think it through and form their own ideas and conclusions. This isn’t a “spoonfeed me, let me regurgitate quickly memorized information on a test and then move on” kind of curriculum. It creates thinkers, analyzers, puzzle solvers — students who will learn to research and write, to evaluate good solid source information and draw their conclusions with common sense and logic. Students are truly educated, not indoctrinated and the lessons learned will serve them throughout their lifetime.
