It’s no secret to any of you that one of my favorite taste sensations is chocolate. As a matter of fact, it’s sort of a family joke, and tradition, all wrapped into one. My sister and I, being firm believers in establishing family stories and traditions, have worked hard on keeping this one alive. 🙂 It is assumed by the children in both our families, that at all times we each have chocolate stashed SOMEWHERE in the house. The stash may move, and it may even be under lock and key; but it is definitely here, and in emergencies, Mom can be put upon to access it. One of my fondest and funniest memories is of my then two-year-old, (now 11) daughter pattering woefully to my side with tears rolling down her cheeks and when quizzed about the cause of her sadness, wailed out a forlorn, “I NEEEED CHOCOLATE!” The women in our family begin their hormonal flux at an early age. lol But, even at the ripe old age of two, she KNEW where to come for chocolate.
Given that I enjoy chocolate so much, you would think that I wouldn’t be that particular about it. But, I’m actually a bit of a chocolate snob. I prefer not to mix fruit and chocolate, though a chocolate covered strawberry has occasionally tickled my tastebuds. I LOVE chocolate with nuts and with caramel, even peanut butter, but I’m not a huge fan of vanilla anything covered with chocolate (Weird, I know.) And most importantly, I can’t stand what I refer to as “waxy” chocolate. I can’t stand eating what has the texture of a chocolate-flavored candle; and yes, there is a national brand that falls into that category for me. So, to say I am brand-loyal, when it comes to chocolate, is an understatement. I want my chocolate to be creamy, buttery, rich and smooth. I’ve discovered a company that can indulge my high chocolate standards to perfection — See’s Chocolate.
I reviewed three items from their fall collection and oh, Baby, autumn is GOOD! The Fall Harvest Box is the perfect size for Teacher Appreciation gifts, hostess gifts, and “thank yous” of any type. This pretty box contained Molasses Chips, solid Milk Chocolate Foil Balls, Scotchmallow®, Dark Chocolate Chip Truffle, Milk Chocolate Butter and a Butterscotch Square.
The Fall Favorites Tower includes a one pound box of assorted chocolates that is covered in an autumn design sleeve. It’s topped with a lovely gold box of creamy, delicious truffles and the two are banded together with ribbon and a pretty fall leaf. Not only would this be a beautiful and enthusiastically received gift, but it could also be separated to make two individually beautiful gifts!
Last, but not least, the Autumn Fancy box makes me feel as though I’ve stepped back in time and am about to open a gorgeous old antique hat box. It’s certainly not as large as a hat box, but the shape, and the way the lid is slightly raised above the base of the box, is so reminiscent of something handcrafted in that style. Once empty, it will be a gorgeous container for photos, jewelry or small keepsake treasures. Lifting the lid on Autumn Fancy, continues the luxurious experience, as it reveals foil-wrapped chocolate leaves, a selection of See’s celebrated chocolates and truffles. Who wouldn’t enjoy receiving such a wonderful gift?
