A “Grown-Up” Easter Basket Review and Give Away from Plastic Container City!

Share Button

I had so much fun, this weekend, baking with my ten-year-old.  Earlier in the week, we received a special Easter basket, designed for us at Plastic Container City.  When I opened the box and pulled out the basket, our daughter was excitedly doing a little “happy dance” all around the kitchen.  She loves being in the kitchen with me and especially loves decorating cupcakes, so this wonderful basket of products was a perfect review activity for us to work on together!  And even more fun??!!!  One Busy-at-Home reader will win the exact same gift basket full of Easter cupcake goodies!  Be sure to enter the giveaway, below.

Eggs, bunnies and chicks - too cute! We also found these pretty cupcake liners - white and yellow tulip papers and cute polka dot liners. There was also a Wilton Cupcake Stand!

I wasn’t aware of Plastic Container City, previously, and I’m so glad now to have been introduced!  Not only do they carry some of my favorite kitchen and baking products from Wilton, they solve a huge problem for someone like me, who likes to share the bounty from her kitchen.  I love taking a meal or dessert to a friend or someone new to the neighborhood.  Gifts of food are almost always well-received, but it can sometimes be a hassle to transport them properly without using your regular baking pans and dishes.  Then the recipient is left with the burden of returning your bakeware and dishes, later.  Plastic Container City solved this dilemma for me with a multitude of creative disposable food storage, transport and display options.  I love all they have to offer!

I have no intention of admitting how much time I spent browsing their online catalog and discovering everything available there, but suffice it to say that I am aware of birthday party and wedding supplies, as well as kitchen apparel, in addition to adorable candy molds and candy making supplies.  They have every possible shape and size of takeout container you can imagine and I definitely found the bags I need for my over-sized loaves of bread.  I love their line of “ovenables” – plastic containers that can be used in the oven and then covered with the included lid for easy transport!  I’ll definitely be shopping there, again!

Another of my favorite items were the cupcake carriers.  We received six-cavity and single cavity ones to test, in our review basket.  Decorated cupcakes pose one of the greatest transport dilemmas of any baked good.  Placing them on a plate or tray runs the risk of “bumping” them together and smooshing icing from one into the icing of another.  All your efforts to decorate and make them beautiful are for naught.  Even if you do manage to keep them separated from one another, how do you cover them without crushing the icing and decorations?  Plastic wrap is NOT the solution.  lol  It sticks to the icing and leaves you with topless cupcakes when it is removed.  Those are a few of the reasons I was immediately hooked by all the wonderful options for cupcakes at Plastic Container City!  Not only are they perfect for gifting, potlucks and sharing, but these are a bake sale organizer’s dream!  Sell your cupcakes as singles, half-dozens or dozens!  They’ll be as beautiful and pristine when the purchaser gets them home, as when they were first decorated!  Cupcakes are nestled into their own round-walled section, keeping them from coming in contact with other cupcakes and the tall lids leave plenty of room for generous icing and decorations. Perfection!

takeout containers

We filled the six-cavity and single-cavity containers with our cupcake bounty, this weekend! I love how each cupcake was cradled in its own space and protected from having it's decorations messed up. We reviewed the six-cavity cupcake containers with deep lid and the single cupcake containers with hinged lid.

Our ten-year-old mixed up the cupcake batter and selected cupcake liners from our gift basket to put into the Wilton standard 12-cup muffin pan we tested.

Filling the liners with cupcake batter. One cake mix made 24 cup cakes and we filled the liners about 2/3 full, which was slightly less than 1/4 cup of batter.

While the cupcakes were baking, we assembled the cute Wilton Springtime Green Cupcake Stand that was included in our review basket.  I’m excited that Plastic Container City carries so many of my favorite Wilton products for baking and decorating!  The stand went together in less than five minutes and was ready to be decorated with cupcakes.

Don't you love the springy green color? This was easy to assemble and made a really fun display!

We mixed up our favorite Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting and divided it into thirds.  One third was left white, one third colored green and the other third was dyed pink.  Once our cupcakes were cool, we had a decorating extravaganza, using the Wilton decorations included in our review basket and a few jelly beans from the pantry.  Our ten-year-old and our three grandkids were in cupcake heaven this weekend!  My “big kids” were pretty happy, too!

The pale green candy pearls were one of our favorite decorating tools. If you were going for a very grown-up elegant look on a cupcake, these would be perfect all by themselves!

Of course these adorable bunnies and chicks, along with the candy star sprinkles were a real crowd-pleaser with our ten-year-old and her friends as well as with our grandkids!

Plastic Container City also offers a wide array of cupcake wrappers.  We got to test these cute Happy Easter reversible ones that were pink and white polka dots on the back side.

The kids like both sides of these reversible cupcake wrappers and there are many designs to choose from at the Plastic Container City website.

So, lest you think Plastic Container City is only about plastic containers (though I have to say their plastic containers are exceptional!), I wanted to share this yummy post and show you that they have so many reasonably-priced items for your kitchen and baking needs, whether it’s for everyday cooking or special occasions and gifts.  Be sure to check out their online store and find some great bargains for your own kitchen!

Glenda's Easy Cream Cheese Butter Cream Frosting

This frosting is DELISH and you won't want to buy canned frosting, again, after you discover how easy and tasty it is!
Serves: Enough for 24 cupcakes or a 9x13 cake.
Ingredients
  • ¾ cup softened butter
  • 8 oz block softened cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 lbs powdered sugar
  • 1-2 Tablespoons milk, as needed
Instructions
  1. In the bowl of your stand mixer, cream together butter, cream cheese and vanilla.
  2. Add the powdered sugar and mix until it is completely combined and no sugar powder is visible.
  3. At this point, I test the thickness of my icing. Depending on the humidity in the air and the how I will be using it, I will either leave it as is or thin it with a few drops of milk at a time, to reach the desired consistency.
  4. To just frost a cake or cupcakes without making detailed decorations I usually add the milk, so the frosting is creamy and spreadable.
  5. If I'm going to use it in decorator bags to create a decorated cake design, I will want it more firm, so will leave it as is, or on occasion, if there is high humidity, I might even add an extra ¼ cup of powdered sugar to firm it up.
